This Charming Shiraz is crafted from grapes grown in the Russell Road vineyard in Frankland River, a sub-region of the Great Southern renowned for producing some of the most complex and richly textured Shiraz in Western Australia. The vineyard employs sustainable practices that incorporate many organic principles. Nutritional requirements are determined through thorough soil analysis, and a spring application of mineral-based fertiliser is microbially seeded as needed. During the warm summer months, liquid kelp is used to maintain leaf health, which is crucial during the final ripening phase. Minimal herbicides are employed, and sheep are allowed to graze after harvest, controlling weeds while adding organic matter to the soil. The vineyard also utilises a gentle fungicide program, relying on organically approved sulphurs and copper, paired with canopy manipulation to reduce pest and disease incidence. This holistic approach emphasises soil and plant health as natural deterrents to pests and diseases.

In the winemaking process, grapes were harvested at full ripeness during the cool of the night, then crushed into open-topped fermentation vessels. Colour and tannin extraction were achieved through a combination of plunging and pumping over the fermenting liquid. Once fermentation reached dryness, the wine was pressed off the skins, retaining the pressings in the final blend. The wine then matured in 100% French oak barriques for 10 months, allowing for deeper integration and complexity.

In the glass, this Shiraz presents a dense and dark, almost black colour, indicative of great fruit ripeness and intensity. The nose is brooding, showcasing enticing aromas of dark cherry and rich chocolate that draw you in.

On the palate, this Shiraz is immense and medium to full-bodied, featuring ripe and fleshy fruit flavours complemented by firm structural tannins. In its youth, the wine benefits from decanting, which allows its aroma and flavour to fully express themselves. With time, this wine will develop further, becoming softer and more velvety, rewarding those who choose to be patient.
