The faber 2023 Chenin is dade using dry grown fruit from a pair of vineyards just a stone’s throw from our winery, this wine is a joyful burst of bright fruit flavours that’s perfect as a refreshing drop on its own, or as a comfortable pairing with light bites.

Red apple, melon and white flower aromas jump out of the glass, while rich, ripe apple and pear reward the palate. Refreshing acidity balances well with a soft, round finish.

A ripper drink here. Resplendent with chenin’s inherent characters of sea spray, Meyer lemon, ginger, green almond, the palate and bouquet in accord on this. Texture is somewhat soft but the concentration is good and the veins of saline minerality a delight. It does refreshment and weight, a sense of seriousness perhaps, and does it well. I bet this ages a treat too, for mellowed, honey-buttery moments later on.

Faber Vineyard in the Swan Valley is fast becoming one of the region’s most prestigious. 11 acres was planted by John & Jane in 1998-2000 and in 2016-2017. Three quarters of the vines are Shiraz, Verdelho and Brown Muscat, the balance Petit Verdot and Chardonnay.

Faber Vineyard was established in 1997 by John Griffiths and Jane Micallef. “Faber” is derived from the Latin word for “craft.” This name was chosen because they perceive winemaking as an art, a skill that is continuously honed but never truly perfected.

Before settling in the Swan Valley, John Griffiths spent ten years mastering the craft of creating highly enjoyable wines in warm climates. Recognising the Swan Valley’s unique ability to yield delicate, refined white wines, robust red wines with generous flavours and longevity, and sumptuously rich liqueur styles, he was drawn to the region. As he refined his winemaking prowess, he delved into the established grape varieties and wine styles that boasted over a century of development and triumph in the Swan Valley.
