Refined ~ Mineral ~ Rare

This museum release from Castelli Estate is a rare find, an aged Riesling bottled from an excellent 2018 vintage, now showing lovely evolution while retaining freshness and energy. Presented in a traditional German-green Riesling bottle, it pays homage to the classic old-world style, yet remains unmistakably Western Australian in character. With its slatey mineral core, citrus drive and spice lift, this wine is drinking amazingly well now!

Why You’ll Love It ❤️

  • 🍋 Elegant aromatics – jasmine, acacia blossom, apple, citrus and a notable spiciness.
  • 🪨 Mineral precision – clean slate-tang, white-stone minerality and a dry finish.
  • ⏳ A rare aged Riesling – not many cellar-worthy bottle-age releases from WA Riesling exist, especially at this price point!
  • 🌟 Exceptional vintage – the 2018 season in Great Southern delivered fruit of superb quality and structure
  • 🎯 Balanced texture – creamy mid-palate weight paired with pure acidity for both immediate pleasure and further age potential.

95 Points – Winepilot

“A museum release, in this year from one of its two main Riesling sources, their Porongurup vineyard. After a good five and a bit years in the bottle, there’s a lot of life left in this ripping wine, the colour now finding a light touch of gold, the nose displaying a gradually deepening sense of baked lemon and lime with Makrit (Kaffir) leaf, while in the mouth it’s all about heightened citrus flavour and pith with bright acidity reverberating through to an accomplished finish. No need here to consider the mature vintage as a game-changer – there’s still an exciting and youthful energy at its core”

Tasting Notes 🍇

  • Colour: Very pale straw with a faint gold hue
  • Aromatics: Lifted scents of jasmine and acacia blossom, green apple and lime citrus, then soft spice and slatey undertones.
  • Palate: Clean and striking – crisp lime, lemon pith and green apple layered with subtle baked citrus, a hint of petrol-like complexity, finishing with fine, chalky minerality and a sustained dry line.

Viticulture & Winemaking

🔹 Region: Porongurup (Great Southern), Western Australia
🔹 Vintage: 2018 – recognised as a strong year for depth, acidity and structure.
🔹 Varietal: 100% Riesling, from mature vines in cool-climate terrain
🔹 Cellaring: Ready to drink now, yet built to evolve further into 2028–2030+

Sustainability & Vineyard Focus 🌱

Castelli Estate has long focussed on cool-climate expression from the Great Southern, using vine-age, site specificity and minimal intervention to achieve wines of elegance and poise. This Riesling release continues that tradition.

Storage & Serving Tips ❄️

  • Serving Temperature: 10°C – to showcase minerality and aromatics

  • Glassware: Use a large white wine glass to allow the subtle perfume to express fully

  • Cellaring Potential: Best enjoyed now through to 2030, when tertiary notes will deepen and complexity expand

Food Pairing Suggestions 🍽️

🔹 Oysters or fresh shell-fish with lemon – highlight the wine’s minerality and acidity
🔹 Asian style seafood with ginger, lime & coriander – compliments spice and citrus layers
🔹 Aged cheeses (especially chèvre or mild blue) – contrast the crisp acidity with creaminess
🔹 Light poultry dishes with citrus herb glazes – mirror the citrus and apple notes

Castelli Estate wines, founded in 2007 have long been producing award winning premium red and white wines.

The Castelli name is steeped in Italian heritage, originating in the picturesque country village of San Giorgio a Liri, nestled in Italy’s Lazio region – the birthplace of the Castelli family. About halfway between Rome and Naples lies the village of San Giorgio a Liri. Framed by the serene green Aurunci mountain range and the winding Liri River, the village is home to our uncle Gregorio Castelli.

Gregorio carries on the winemaking traditions passed down by our grandfather, Germino. When Gregorio’s elder brother Sam immigrated to Western Australia, he concentrated on establishing the Castelli name in his new homeland. Sam founded an ASX-listed engineering firm and formed the Castelli Group – a diverse conglomerate with investments in renewable energy, real estate development, and wine.

In 2004, Sam and his son Adam stumbled upon the plot of land that would perpetuate the Castelli family’s passion for crafting premium wine in Australia. Sam was always enamored with the scenery around Denmark. With slopes cascading into valleys adorned with eucalyptus trees, and the faint tang of salt from the Southern Ocean carried on the breeze, the 120-acre estate proved to be the ideal setting for the Castelli family to establish their presence.

From those humble beginnings to now, the Castelli Wine range to has seen medals, and trophies, earning critical acclaim. Yet, the true joy comes from knowing that our wines are savored as they were meant to be – shared around the family table, accompanied by food, tales, and laughter.
