The Sum Tasting Notes:

  • Colour: Very pale straw with green tinges, giving the wine a bright and fresh appearance.
  • Aromatics: A pronounced nose of citrus (lemon, lime), mineral slate, and subtle tropical notes. Hints of orange blossom and rose petal complete the floral bouquet.
  • Palate: Crisp lemon and lime acidity leads the charge, while additional layers of lemon blossom, talc, and a touch of saline minerality provide complexity and depth.
  • Finish: Long, dry, and refreshing with a clean finish, leaving a lingering impression of vibrant citrus and mineral notes.

Food Pairing Suggestions:

  • Fresh Oysters or Shellfish: The wine’s bright acidity and mineral notes make it a perfect match for fresh oysters or delicate shellfish dishes.
  • Grilled Fish or Sushi: Its crispness and citrus character pair wonderfully with lightly grilled fish or fresh sushi.
  • Asian Cuisine: The freshness and acidity complement dishes like Thai green curry, tempura, or ceviche, where balance and zest are key.
  • Soft Cheeses: Try it with soft cheeses like goat cheese or brie, where the wine’s acidity enhances the creamy texture.

Vineyard & Winemaking:

The 2024 vintage was harvested early, after a warm, dry spring and an accelerated ripening season. Machine-harvested at night to preserve freshness, the fruit was pressed gently to extract clean, pure juice. The wine was fermented cool in stainless steel to maintain its crisp acidity and fruit expression. A blend of fruit from both Mt Barker and Frankland River regions, this Riesling offers a floral-driven style with lively acidity and complexity.

Castelli Estate wines, founded in 2007 have long been producing award winning premium red and white wines.

The Castelli name is steeped in Italian heritage, originating in the picturesque country village of San Giorgio a Liri, nestled in Italy’s Lazio region – the birthplace of the Castelli family. About halfway between Rome and Naples lies the village of San Giorgio a Liri. Framed by the serene green Aurunci mountain range and the winding Liri River, the village is home to our uncle Gregorio Castelli.

Gregorio carries on the winemaking traditions passed down by our grandfather, Germino. When Gregorio’s elder brother Sam immigrated to Western Australia, he concentrated on establishing the Castelli name in his new homeland. Sam founded an ASX-listed engineering firm and formed the Castelli Group – a diverse conglomerate with investments in renewable energy, real estate development, and wine.

In 2004, Sam and his son Adam stumbled upon the plot of land that would perpetuate the Castelli family’s passion for crafting premium wine in Australia. Sam was always enamored with the scenery around Denmark. With slopes cascading into valleys adorned with eucalyptus trees, and the faint tang of salt from the Southern Ocean carried on the breeze, the 120-acre estate proved to be the ideal setting for the Castelli family to establish their presence.

From those humble beginnings to now, the Castelli Wine range to has seen medals, and trophies, earning critical acclaim. Yet, the true joy comes from knowing that our wines are savored as they were meant to be – shared around the family table, accompanied by food, tales, and laughter.
