Castelli Estate

The Sum Sauvignon Blanc 2024

Castelli Estate The Sum Sauvignon Blanc

The 2024 Castelli The Sum Sauvignon Blanc was crafted with great care, starting with machine harvesting in the early hours of the morning when temperatures are cooler. This timing helps preserve the fruit’s freshness and vibrancy. After harvesting, the grapes were allowed to soak on their skins for 12 hours before pressing. This extended skin contact allows for a full extraction of the intense Sauvignon Blanc character, enhancing the wine’s aromatic complexity. This year the vast majority of fruit is from Pemberton, with a small amount from Albany.

The 2024 vintage marks an exceptional season for Western Australia, with the earliest start and finish on record, surpassing previous warm years like 2014, 2018, and 2020. The growing season was defined by a mild winter and ideal conditions for ripening, resulting in grapes with excellent flavour concentration and balance.

In the glass, the wine presents a pale green-gold hue, a visual reflection of its fresh, vibrant character. The nose is bright and inviting, offering an abundance of tropical aromas, including passionfruit and honeydew melon. There are also subtle herbal notes and a delicate hint of lemon sherbet, adding depth and intrigue to the bouquet.

On the palate, the wine is wonderfully fresh and approachable, with juicy acidity that lifts the tropical fruit flavours. Passionfruit takes centre stage, accompanied by additional notes of pineapple, guava, and a touch of lime juice, which round out the crisp, clean finish. It’s a truly moreish wine that’s hard to put down, with each sip enticing you for another.

While this Sauvignon Blanc is best enjoyed in its youthful freshness, it has the potential to age gracefully for up to three years, allowing its flavours to evolve further.

Castelli Estate wines, founded in 2007 have long been producing award winning premium red and white wines.

The Castelli name is steeped in Italian heritage, originating in the picturesque country village of San Giorgio a Liri, nestled in Italy’s Lazio region – the birthplace of the Castelli family. About halfway between Rome and Naples lies the village of San Giorgio a Liri. Framed by the serene green Aurunci mountain range and the winding Liri River, the village is home to our uncle Gregorio Castelli.

Gregorio carries on the winemaking traditions passed down by our grandfather, Germino. When Gregorio’s elder brother Sam immigrated to Western Australia, he concentrated on establishing the Castelli name in his new homeland. Sam founded an ASX-listed engineering firm and formed the Castelli Group – a diverse conglomerate with investments in renewable energy, real estate development, and wine.

In 2004, Sam and his son Adam stumbled upon the plot of land that would perpetuate the Castelli family’s passion for crafting premium wine in Australia. Sam was always enamored with the scenery around Denmark. With slopes cascading into valleys adorned with eucalyptus trees, and the faint tang of salt from the Southern Ocean carried on the breeze, the 120-acre estate proved to be the ideal setting for the Castelli family to establish their presence.

From those humble beginnings to now, the Castelli Wine range to has seen medals, and trophies, earning critical acclaim. Yet, the true joy comes from knowing that our wines are savored as they were meant to be – shared around the family table, accompanied by food, tales, and laughter.
