Larry Cherubino and wife Edwina are the heartbeat of all things Cherubino. Edwina is a fourth generation Western Australian. Her ancestors, the Egerton-Warburton’s, migrated from England and settled Frankland River in the mid 1800’s. Not just settlement pioneers, they planted the first vines on the banks of the river in 1875.

Edwina and Larry embarked on their winemaking journey by purchasing their first parcel of land in Frankland River in 2004, with dreams of planting their own vineyard. This small parcel was originally part of the historic landholding called Riversdale.

Larry Cherubino is a name synonymous with excellence in Australian winemaking. With a career spanning over three decades, he has established himself as one of the country’s most innovative and respected winemakers. Cherubino’s journey into the world of wine began with a deep-rooted passion for viticulture and a commitment to crafting high-quality wines that reflect the unique terroir of the regions from which they are sourced.

Based in Western Australia, Cherubino’s winemaking philosophy revolves around a minimalist approach. He believes in letting the fruit speak for itself, utilising minimal intervention techniques that allow the natural characteristics of the grapes to shine through. This philosophy has resulted in a diverse range of wines, each showcasing the nuances of their respective vineyards.

Margaret River, one of Australia’s premier wine regions, is where Cherubino’s wines truly excel. The region’s maritime climate, combined with its diverse soils, creates ideal conditions for growing a variety of grape varietals. Cherubino is particularly known for his Chardonnay and Shiraz, both of which have garnered critical acclaim and numerous awards.

The Chardonnay from Cherubino’s range epitomises the new wave of Australian winemaking. Sourced from select vineyards in Margaret River, these Chardonnays are characterised by their bright acidity and complex flavour profiles. Cherubino’s approach typically involves a combination of stainless steel fermentation and careful oak maturation, allowing for a delicate balance between freshness and richness. This results in Chardonnays that are both vibrant and layered, often featuring notes of citrus, stone fruit, and subtle oak influences.

Cherubino’s Shiraz, particularly from the 2021 vintage, has been celebrated for its richness and depth. The wines display characteristics typical of Margaret River Shiraz, including ripe dark fruits, spicy nuances, and a touch of earthy complexity. The meticulous winemaking process ensures that each bottle captures the essence of the region, with silky tannins and a long, satisfying finish. This approach not only highlights the fruit’s inherent qualities but also adds a layer of complexity that wine enthusiasts appreciate.

In addition to Chardonnay and Shiraz, Cherubino produces a variety of other wines, including Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and blends that showcase the best of Margaret River and beyond. His dedication to quality extends to every aspect of the winemaking process, from vineyard management to bottling. Cherubino often collaborates with local growers, sourcing the best fruit to create wines that are both expressive and true to their origins.

Beyond his technical skills, Larry Cherubino is also a passionate advocate for sustainable practices in viticulture. He understands the importance of preserving the environment and is committed to implementing sustainable practices throughout his vineyards. This not only benefits the land but also enhances the quality of the wines produced.

Cherubino’s wines have made a significant impact on both the local and international wine scenes. They are widely available and have found a place on the lists of some of the finest restaurants and wine retailers, often celebrated for their exceptional value.
