Graphite Road

Graphite Road Wavelength Cabernet 2024

Blueberry fruit • Fine tannins • Elegant

Graphite Road’s 2024 Cabernet Sauvignon is classic Margaret River cabernet with a modern, polished edge. Built around delicate blueberry and blackberry fruit, it marries sweet spice and subtle herbs with a fine, mineral tannin line that lives up to the name on the label. Medium in body but long in flavour, it is the kind of cabernet that feels equally at home with a good steak or a quiet glass at the end of the day.

The 2024 vintage was one of Margaret River’s hottest and earliest on record, bringing cabernet into the winery weeks ahead of usual. Smaller, perfectly ripe berries and a warm, dry finish to the season have given this wine its concentrated dark fruit, supple tannins and impressive length, while careful picking and gentle handling kept the acidity bright and the palate in balance.

Tasting Notes 🍇

  • Colour
Deep crimson with a bright purple rim.
  • Aromatics
Delicate blueberry and blackcurrant, hints of blackberry compote, dried herbs and sweet baking spice. A touch of cedar and graphite adds a savoury, varietal edge.
  • Palate
Medium bodied and finely structured. Bright blackberry and blueberry sit at the core, supported by plum skin and a savoury line of cocoa. Medium acidity keeps the fruit fresh, while fine, powdery tannins frame the palate without dominating.
  • Finish
Long, elegant and mouth filling with lingering dark berries, spice and a gentle mineral twist.

Vintage, Viticulture & Winemaking 🌱

  • Region: Margaret River, Western Australia

  • Variety: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon

  • Vintage 2024: A hot, early season with lower soil moisture produced small, thick skinned berries and naturally low yields. The warmth turbocharged flavour development, while cool nights helped retain acid and perfume in the cabernet.

  • Viticulture: Selected Margaret River blocks picked in the cool of early morning to capture freshness and avoid overripe characters.

  • Winemaking (inventive but plausible):

    • Destemmed and fermented in small open fermenters with oak staves.

    • Gentle plunging and pump overs for colour and tannin extraction

Serving & Cellaring ❄️

  • Drink: Delicious now with a short splash in a decanter, with potential to age 8 to 10 years as the fruit, oak and tannins knit together.

  • Serving temperature: 16 to 18 °C.

Food Pairing Suggestions 🍽️

  • Chargrilled rib eye or scotch fillet with herb butter

  • Roast lamb with rosemary, garlic and root vegetables

  • Mushroom and thyme pie or lentil shepherd’s pie

  • Aged cheddar, manchego or other firm, nutty cheeses

FAQ 🧐

Is it a big, heavy cabernet?
No, it sits in the medium bodied camp. There is plenty of flavour and depth, but the tannins are fine and the acidity keeps it bright and approachable.

How does the hot 2024 vintage show in the glass?
The warm, early season has given riper, darker fruit characters, silky tannins and a generous mid palate, while thoughtful picking has kept any jamminess at bay.

A poised, modern Margaret River cabernet with lifted blueberry fruit, fine graphite like tannins and a finish that just keeps going.
