The Rowe Karridale Chardonnay 2024 is a striking Margaret River Chardonnay that immediately feels like a wine worth paying attention to. Sourced from the cool southern Karridale subregion, it shows the purity, tension and natural acidity that make this part of Margaret River so exciting for Chardonnay. Precision-built and released in limited quantities, it is a wine that brings together class, complexity and real drinkability in a way that makes its value hard to ignore. Crafted by Richard Rowe, a highly respected winemaker with decades of experience, this is a Chardonnay with impressive composure and detail. Layers of citrus and stone fruit are joined by nougat, hazelnut and savoury pastry notes, while the palate carries a fine textural feel and a saline line that gives the wine freshness and shape. Long, focused and sophisticated, it finishes with the sort of refinement usually expected at a higher price point. With the wine already sold out at the cellar door, this is a limited opportunity to secure a seriously impressive bottle.

Accolades 🏆

97 Points – Wine Orbit
“A compelling rendition of the variety, the immensely complex bouquet shows white fleshed peach, lemon pith, vanilla, roasted hazelnut, and savoury pastry aromas. The concentrated palate exhibits brilliant focus and fine flow, superbly structured by perfectly pitched acidity, leading to a prolonged, sophisticated finish. At its best: 2027 to 2039.”

Additional Critic Praise
Described as a fine, detailed Chardonnay that transparently expresses the cool south of the region. Aromas of fine cedar, Meyer lemon, grapefruit pith and nougat open into dried pear, sea salt and a flicker of flint. The palate is more sapid and driven than the nose, yet mirrors it, carried by ample texture. Preserved lemon phenolics and saline acidity pull the wine to a long, elegant close.

Tasting Notes 🍋

Colour
Bright pale straw with subtle gold hints.

Aromatics
White fleshed peach, Meyer lemon and grapefruit pith, layered with vanilla, roasted hazelnut and savoury pastry. As it opens you find nougat, dried pear, sea salt and a flicker of flint.

Palate
Concentrated and beautifully shaped. Stone fruits and citrus sit in a fine textured frame, with preserved lemon phenolics and saline acidity providing drive and length. Oak is present as cedar and pastry like savouriness rather than sweetness, keeping the wine focused and refined.

Finish
Long, sophisticated and mineral edged, with nougat, citrus pith and sea spray persistence.
