The 2024 vintage of Shepherds Hut Chardonnay is a delightful expression of the varietal, showcasing succulent aromas of grapefruit and fresh melons. This wine undergoes a meticulous winemaking process, incorporating partial malolactic fermentation, which contributes to its softer and subtle buttery style. Malolactic fermentation is a secondary fermentation where sharper malic acid is converted into softer lactic acid, resulting in a smoother, creamier mouthfeel and those inviting buttery notes.

Left on lees in French oak for 10 months and wild fermented, this Chardonnay presents a fresh, slightly buttery, floral palate that reveals enticing hints of stone fruit, zesty citrus, and cashew nuts, all beautifully balanced by a fine acid finish that lingers elegantly on the palate.

Learn About Shepherd’s Hut Wines

Named after a 1850s stone hut found in ruins on an adjacent property. Built of beautiful honey-coloured Mt Barker stone, the hut was used by local shepherds as shelter while grazing their flocks along the Kalgan River. As we planted our first vines on the north facing slopes of our sheep and cattle farm, we rebuilt the hut. It now overlooks the vineyard, with spectacular sweeping views to both the Porongurup and Stirling Ranges.
