Award Winning

The Singlefile ‘The Vivienne’ Chardonnay of 2022 is a striking Denmark Chardonnay that beautifully expresses the character of this celebrated Great Southern sub-region. Crafted from handpicked fruit, it brings together power, finesse and precision in a style that feels both refined and age-worthy. Floral and citrus notes lead the way, followed by layers of wild ferment complexity, lees character and flinty nuance that continue to build in the glass. A fine mineral line and vibrant natural acidity give the wine freshness and structure, while the depth of fruit adds richness and composure. Newly released, this is a wonderful opportunity to experience the latest vintage before it has even officially reached the cellar door.

Critical Acclaim

Wine Companion – 96 Points

The Vivienne is a true celebration of Denmark chardonnay. This limited release was hand harvested across three select picks, the fruit was whole-bunch pressed to new and old French barriques, where it matured for 10 months. A rich and decadent wine, yet, for all its billowy grandeur, the mineral tension of the ’22 vintage imparts electric energy and vitality, unlocking the equilibrium of the wine. Plumes of stone fruit, white peach and grilled mango cheeks, with creme fraîche spooned atop and lime zest sprinkled over. It is detailed, pithy and resolute. A remarkable wine.

Tasting Notes:

  • Colour: Bright, clear, pale gold.
  • Aromatics: Initially floral and citrus notes evolve as the wine breathes, revealing layers of funky wild ferment and flinty character, complemented by lees-derived complexity.
  • Palate: A deep and powerful wine with clarity and precision. Its mineral acidity supports the flavours, creating a wine that is both intense and finely structured. It has great length, with a textured, precise finish.
  • Finish: Long and crisp, with a clean, mineral-driven finish that leaves a lasting impression of finesse and power.

Food Pairing Suggestions:

  • Grilled Seafood: The wine’s acidity and complexity would pair beautifully with grilled seafood, such as grilled prawns or lobster.
  • Roast Chicken: Try with roast chicken, especially with citrusy or herb-infused accompaniments.
  • Soft Cheeses: Brie, camembert, or a selection of soft cheeses would be an excellent complement to the wine’s texture and depth.

Best Serving Temp:

Serve at 10-12°C to allow its complexity to unfold without losing the freshness and vibrancy.

Winemaking:

  • Harvesting: The fruit was handpicked across three separate harvests from the end of February to March 25, 2021, ensuring each parcel of fruit was fully ripe.
  • Fermentation: The wine was fermented on full solids in new and seasoned French oak barrels with natural yeasts, allowing the wild ferment to express itself and create complexity.
  • Maturation: The wine matured on lees for approximately five months without sulphur, with some spontaneous malolactic fermentation. It spent a total of 10 months in oak, followed by an additional 18 months in bottle to develop further character before release.

Technical Data:

  • Alcohol: 12.9%
  • pH: 3.10
  • Titratable Acidity: 7.8 g/L
  • Cellaring: Up to 20 years for optimal aging potential.

Vintage Conditions:

The 2022 growing season in Denmark started with a warm spring, leading to an earlier ripening period. Temperate days and cool nights helped preserve the natural acidity while allowing full flavours to develop. The cool climate and dry conditions leading up to harvest resulted in a vintage with exceptional balance.

2022 Vintage

97 Points – Ray Jordan
Over recent years, this high-class chardonnay has been elevated into the top tier of West Australian chardonnays. It comes from a single vineyard in Denmark where the family home is located. I’d have to say this is certainly one of the best. There’s a subtle combination of struck-match complexity, vibrant lime, grapefruit-like notes, and a little rich butterscotch. The palate then delivers with such intensity and concentrated drive. Those butterscotch nuances emerge with a slightly roasted cashew complexity. There’s a minerally precision here that supports the fine, precise, refined finish. This is a super fine wine”
