Best Of The Best’ Cabernet

Singlefile The Philip Adrian Frankland River Cabernet Sauvignon of 2021 is a serious Frankland River Cabernet that shows exactly why this wine sits among the finest releases in the Singlefile range. Sourced from the renowned Riversdale Vineyard, it is a classic, age-worthy expression built on structure, depth and precision, while still carrying the polished feel that makes great Cabernet so compelling to drink. Aromas of cedar, cigar box, bay leaf and cassis rise from the glass, layered with earthy complexity and the savoury detail that gives the wine real character. On the palate, dark berry fruit, leafy blackcurrant and ironstone nuances are wrapped around firm but beautifully refined tannins, creating a wine that feels bold, smooth and long through the finish. Already impressive now, this is a Cabernet with the pedigree and balance to evolve gracefully for many years.

Ray Jordan – 97 Points

“This is the pinnacle of Singlefile’s red wine portfolio, and it comes from the famous Riversdale Vineyard in Frankland River. Okay, this was a cooler year, and yet the vineyard has certainly pumped out some classy fruit that has been captured in this quite tightly refined expression of cabernet. First things first—give it a decent splash and decant to open it up. These tighter, cooler years need that. But this one then reveals all that you expect, with a leafy, slightly bay leaf, dark chocolate, blackcurrant combination on the nose and a seamlessly integrated and intricately woven palate that brings together the fine ironstone minerality, deep dark fruits with a little red fruit lift, and some well-managed oak. It’s a wine that’s been harnessed and developed to certainly handle some extended cellaring”

Vineyard & Winemaking:

The continental cool climate sub-region of Frankland River sits within the north west corner of the Great Southern wine region (its latitude 34°39’S). The Riversdale vineyard, planted in 1997 on deep gravel over clay soils, on a north-south orientation, is located 7kms north west of the Frankland River township.

‘The Philip Adrian’ is Singlefile’s flagship red wine where every measure is taken to ensure only the best fruit and barrels are selected. This wine will only be made in exceptional vintages.

The wine is 100% cabernet sauvignon (Houghton clones), the fruit picked and sorted in April 2021. It was cold soaked in a small fermenter for two days with minimum pump overs before undergoing an extended and gentle maceration lasting for four weeks. Forty percent of the wine was matured in new Bordeaux oak barriques for fifteen months. The balance went to one-year-old (30%) and two-year-old (30%) Bordeaux barriques (for the same period).

Technical Data:
