Peel Wine Region
The Peel wine region is situated south of Perth, encompassing parts of the Peel and Murray River catchments. It is one of the lesser-known wine regions in Western Australia but has been gaining recognition for its potential in recent years. If you are heading south on the Kwinana Freeway you will notice a sign at the Karnup exit mentioning “wineries”, well this is the Peel region.
The Peel region benefits from a Mediterranean climate, with warm summers and mild winters moderated by its proximity to the ocean. This climate is conducive to grape growing, particularly for varietals such as Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Verdelho & Chenin Blanc.
The soils in the Peel region vary, ranging from sandy loams to gravelly sands and sandy clays. These diverse soil types contribute to the complexity of the wines produced in the region.

While the Peel wine region is still relatively small compared to other wine regions in Western Australia, it has been attracting attention for its boutique wineries and the quality of its wines. The region’s picturesque landscapes, with small rolling hills and river valleys, also add to its appeal as a wine tourism destination.
Overall, while the Peel wine region may not be as well-known as some of its counterparts, it is certainly worth exploring for wine enthusiasts looking to discover new and emerging wine regions in Western Australia.
