Faber Vineyard was established in 1997 by John Griffiths and Jane Micallef. The name Faber comes from the Latin word for craft, which says a great deal about the winery’s philosophy from the outset. Rather than chasing fashion, Faber has always been centred on the idea of growing regionally distinctive fruit and making wines that are rich, flavoursome and shaped by place. That approach has helped give the winery a style that feels grounded, confident and unmistakably Swan Valley.
A Baskerville site with real character
The vineyard sits in Baskerville, in the north-eastern corner of the Swan Valley at the base of the Darling Scarp. Faber’s site is part of what makes the wines so distinctive, with shallow ironstone gravel, coffee rock and deep clay helping to produce low-vigour vines and intensely flavoured fruit. John and Jane planted the vineyard in stages, first between 1998 and 2000 and later again in 2016 and 2017, with a strong focus on varieties that genuinely suit the region and the site.

Shiraz, Verdelho, Chenin Blanc, & Malbec form the backbone of Faber Vineyard, and those varieties are a big part of what makes the winery such a strong Swan Valley name.
