Grazing Chardonnay 2023

Alkoomi Wines Chardonnay

Uncomplicated | Fruit-Forward | Subtle Oak

The Alkoomi Wines Grazing Chardonnay 2023 is a delightful, budget-friendly Chardonnay from Frankland River that delivers a clean, straightforward profile with just the right touch of complexity. With fresh stone fruit and citrus notes complemented by subtle oak nuances and a hint of resinous spice, this wine is a crowd-pleaser with minimal fuss.

Why You Will Love It 💛

  • Vibrant Aromas: Bright citrus notes of lemon and lime mingle with the sweet, inviting scents of peach and nectarine. There’s also a touch of oak and a hint of subtle spice that adds depth without overpowering the fresh fruit.
  • Fresh and Fruit-Forward Flavours: The first sip delivers ripe peach and nectarine with a smooth, nutty undertone. The wine finishes with a refreshing burst of acidity that keeps things lively and crisp.
  • Balanced and Easy-Drinking: This Chardonnay strikes the perfect balance between fruit and texture. It’s got a light creaminess from the lees stirring, but the oak influence is just enough to add a bit of structure without taking the spotlight.
  • Versatile & Enjoyable: Whether you’re unwinding on a warm day or pairing it with a simple seafood dish or light salad, this wine is easy to enjoy and always refreshing. Perfect for those moments when you just want a no-fuss, delicious glass of wine.

Food Pairing Suggestions:

  • Grilled Chicken: The wine’s clean, fresh profile pairs beautifully with grilled poultry dishes.
  • Seafood: Try it with prawns, crab, or grilled fish for a light, refreshing meal.
  • Fresh Salads: A perfect match for light, fresh salads, especially those with citrus dressing.
  • Pasta with Cream Sauce: Its subtle oak and nutty notes complement creamy pasta dishes perfectly.

Vineyard & Winemaking:

The 2023 vintage benefited from excellent growing conditions in the Frankland River region, where mild yet dry weather led to pristine fruit quality and intense flavour development. The fruit was harvested early in the morning, ensuring freshness, and was pressed to tank. The juice was settled overnight and fermented in stainless steel, maintaining the bright fruit characteristics. It was kept on fermentation lees and stirred regularly to enhance texture and complexity.

Technical Data:

  • Grape Variety: Chardonnay
  • Region: Frankland River, Great Southern, Western Australia
  • Alcohol: 13% by Vol | 7.8 Standard Drinks
  • Cellaring: Best enjoyed now, but can be kept for up to 2-3 years.
  • Fermented: Stainless steel with oak staves

Best Serving Temperature:

  • Ideal Serving Temperature: 8-10°C
Serve chilled for a refreshing, crisp experience that enhances its vibrant fruit profile. The warmer it becomes the more oak is apparent.

Technical Wine Language Explained:

  • Lees: The sediment of dead yeast cells that remain in the wine after fermentation. Stirring the lees (known as “bâttonnage”) adds complexity and texture.
  • Acidity: The natural crispness or tartness in wine that helps balance the flavours and provides a refreshing finish.
  • Fermentation: The process where yeast converts sugar into alcohol, transforming the grape juice into wine.
  • Resinous Spice: A hint of spice often derived from oak aging, adding a layer of complexity to the wine.
