Winemaker’s Note

“The 2021 Amelia Park Reserve Shiraz is crafted from a single vineyard in the Frankland River Region, known for its cool climate and ideal conditions for producing elegant, structured Shiraz. This wine is aged in French oak for 18 months, allowing it to develop depth, with ripe fruit flavours balanced by velvety tannins. It’s a wine that will age beautifully over the next decade, but is also enjoyable now.”

Wine Review

Wine Companion / Halliday – 96 points (Outstanding)
“It takes a tide of cassis and bay leaf-like flavour and straps it tight to the future. It’s powerfully flavoured and textured and prosecutes every point convincingly on the finish. Nothing need more be said other than: it’s absolutely spot on.” – Campbell Mattinson

Cabernet Sauvignon thrives in Margaret River, making it one of the region’s standout varietals. Several factors contribute to its success, including the unique terroir, climate, and meticulous vineyard management.

The region’s Mediterranean climate, characterised by warm, dry summers and mild, wet winters, is ideal for ripening Cabernet Sauvignon. The long growing season allows for a gradual maturation of the grapes, which helps to develop complex flavours and maintain balanced acidity. Additionally, the well-draining gravelly soils found in many vineyards provide excellent drainage, preventing waterlogging and promoting healthy root development. This combination of climate and soil enables the vines to produce grapes that are rich in flavour and ripe tannins.

Historically, the Margaret River region has become synonymous with high-quality Cabernet Sauvignon since its first commercial plantings in the 1960s. Pioneering winemakers recognised the area’s potential, leading to a rapid expansion of vineyards. The region’s proximity to the Indian Ocean also plays a crucial role, as the maritime influence moderates temperatures and enhances the ripening process. Over the years, Margaret River has gained a reputation for producing some of Australia’s finest Cabernet Sauvignon, with many wines consistently receiving accolades in national and international competitions.

Margaret River’s focus on sustainability and innovative viticultural practices further enhances the quality of its Cabernet Sauvignon. Many producers employ organic and biodynamic methods to nurture the vines, resulting in healthier grapes and more expressive wines. As a result, Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon is celebrated for its elegance, depth, and distinctive regional character, making it a favourite among wine enthusiasts both locally and abroad. This enduring legacy continues to position the region as a premier destination for Cabernet Sauvignon production.
