Learn About Goon Tycoons

GOON | TYCOONS is the brainchild of three blokes who, like Liam Neeson, each have a very particular set of skills—skills they’ve honed over long careers. Skills dedicated to crafting fantastic wines for people like you. Julian Langworthy is the winemaker, John Fogarty is the viticulturist, and Mark Fogarty counts the cash.

Having spent most of their lives in the wine industry, this is their chance to tinker with the Margaret River model and showcase the smaller vineyards they stumble upon.

Dancing on the edge of stupidity and sensibility, their wines are made to celebrate unique varieties and grower sites uncovered in their endless quest for great vineyards—without compromising quality. Natural is best, but technique reigns supreme. The boys are let loose from their day jobs to launch their own brand, let’s say they’re Out & About on Good Behaviour.

This is their chance to enjoy the ride. This is their chance to Get Rich, or Drunk Trying.

What is Orange Wine?

Orange wine isn’t made from oranges—it’s a white wine made using red wine techniques. Instead of pressing the juice off the grape skins straight away, the grapes are left in contact with their skins for days, weeks, or even months during fermentation. This skin contact gives the wine its signature amber or orange hue, along with added texture, tannin, and complex flavours.

The Influence of Riesling, Gewürztraminer & Muscat

Your blend brings together three aromatic varieties, each adding its own magic to the wine:

  • Riesling contributes bright acidity, citrus notes, and minerality, giving the wine a crisp backbone.
  • Gewürztraminer adds exotic spice, floral intensity, and a lush mouthfeel, making the wine more textural and expressive.
  • Muscat enhances the aromatic lift, bringing notes of orange blossom, musk, and stone fruit, amplifying the wine’s perfumed complexity.

Together, these varieties create a highly aromatic, richly textured, and intensely flavoured orange wine with layers of spice, florals, and bright acidity. The extended skin contact boosts structure and tannin, making it a bold yet beautifully balanced expression.
