Gioia Rosé 2023 (Dry)

Henty View Wines Rose

A Beautiful Expression of Cabernet Sauvignon in Rosé Form.

The Henty View Gioia Rosé 2023 is a standout rosé that showcases the very best of the Geographe region, with a rich and vibrant colour and an elegant, yet approachable flavour profile. Crafted from premium Cabernet Sauvignon fruit, this rosé is a delightful expression of fresh, fruit-driven characteristics with a touch of complexity, thanks to its extended time on skins.

The Cabernet Sauvignon for this rosé was carefully picked at its peak ripeness to capture the best of the grape’s varietal characteristics. By allowing the wine to remain in contact with the skins for an extended period, the winemaker was able to enhance the colour and flavour, creating a wine that has both depth and freshness. The 2023 Gioia Rosé presents a rich, deep pink colour, which is the result of the wine’s extended skin contact during fermentation. This extra time on the skins allows for the extraction of more flavour and colour, producing a rosé that stands out with its bold fruit intensity.

On the nose, the wine delivers upfront aromas of strawberries and cream, inviting you in with a sense of fresh, sweet fruitiness. On the palate, cherry flavours take centre stage, complemented by a subtle creaminess that gives way to a refreshing, crisp acidity. The finish is clean, leaving a lingering sense of dryness, but not too much, ensuring a balanced, easy-drinking style.

This rosé is a moderately dry wine, with enough acidity to keep it fresh, and just enough fruit expression to make it truly enjoyable. While it is best served cool, it’s important not to chill it too much; serving it slightly cooler than room temperature allows the Cabernet fruit to shine through and express its full potential.

The fresh fruit profile and balanced acidity of the Gioia Rosé 2023 make it an excellent companion to a wide variety of foods. It pairs beautifully with seafood dishes like grilled prawns or a fresh seafood platter, as well as light salads and charcuterie. It also works well with soft cheeses such as brie or goat’s cheese. For a more casual pairing, enjoy it with a chicken salad wrap or a plate of vegetarian antipasti.

Ferguson Wine Region

The Ferguson Valley and surrounds (Geographe) sits about 15 to 30 mins East and Southwest of Bunbury and is home to a number of small boutique wineries. It’s majestic rolling hills, and the changes between the prevailing summer easterlies to the afternoon sea breeze makes for a diverse set of microclimates.

The Geographe region has a rich and vibrant history in grape cultivation, earning its esteemed wine appellation status in 1999. While relatively young, this appellation has increasingly attracted new winemakers since the 2000s. Named after Geographe Bay, initially explored by French navigator Baudin in 1801 aboard his ships, the Geographe and the Naturaliste, the region now hosts 57 winegrowers, 26 producers, and cultivates 36 different grape varieties.

The terroir of the Geographe Wine Region is influenced by its maritime climate, with warm summer temperatures moderated by Indian Ocean breezes year-round. With an average annual temperature of 22.4°C, supplemented by water from the Collie River, the region is ideal for viticulture. Winters bring heavy rainfall, varying from 500-800mm a year. Geographe contributes ten percent to Western Australia’s wine industry, with vineyards reaching a maximum altitude of 400 meters, situated on limestone soil that holds water well along the coast, promoting drainage and mineral-rich content. Coastal vineyards feature low soil fertility, extending ripening times for smaller berries with intense aromas and concentrated flavours, while inland vineyards benefit from higher fertility derived from sandy loam and gneissic rock.
