Juniper Shiraz

Elegant ~ Spiced ~ Balanced

The 2019 Juniper Shiraz is a refined expression of Margaret River, showcasing the finesse and complexity that define the region’s best reds. With fruit from 1973 plantings and a touch of the aromatic PT15 clone, this Shiraz delivers layered dark fruit, savoury spice, and silky tannins in perfect harmony.

Why You Will Love It ❤️

🔹 Complex & Aromatic – Black cherries, damsons, and charcuterie, with a subtle lift of dried herbs.

🔹 Medium-Bodied Elegance – Ripe dark fruits, spiced plum, licorice, and white pepper.

🔹 Silky & Refined – Fine tannins and vibrant acidity create a beautifully balanced structure.

🔹 Subtle Oak Influence – Aged in large-format French barrels (only 10% new) for nine months, enhancing texture without overpowering the fruit.

94 Points ★★★★, jamessuckling.com

Intense aromas of blackberries, sweet tobacco, cracked pepper and violets. Medium-to full-bodied with firm tannins that are long and intense. Yet, there’s polish and focus to the wine. Finesse, too. So drinkable now, but will improve age.

FAQ Wine Terms 🧐

What is whole-bunch fermentation?
Including whole grape clusters (stems and all) during fermentation enhances texture, freshness, and spice complexity.

Why use large-format barrels?
Larger barrels reduce the oak-to-wine ratio, ensuring subtle integration of oak while preserving fruit purity.

What makes Margaret River Shiraz unique?
The region’s cooler maritime climate produces a more elegant, structured style of Shiraz, with lifted aromatics and refined tannins.

The sites are exciting in their differences, but their farming is united by sustainable and organic practices resulting in the best fruit possible that reflects each vineyard’s idiosyncrasies. Applications of compost from spent marc, sheep manure, and the use of inter-row crops to fix nitrogen are all small examples of how we help sustain the natural balance of our land.

A deep respect for the history of the region, and the pursuit to push boundaries, drives our outlook in creating wines that reflect their time and place. This begins with careful and thorough manual intervention in the vineyard and attentive yet minimal intervention in the winery.

Important to our philosophy is retention of the individuality of each parcel of fruit, with a block-by-block approach to their winemaking. This enables us control in blending, using complementary parcels to preserve the uniqueness and personality of our distinctive Margaret River sites. Oak maturation is used to enhance complexity and contribute to the refinement of the wines.
