• Palate: Black cherry and blackcurrant lead into a mid-palate of liquorice and dark chocolate with subtle savoury spices. The finish is long, with fine tannins and toasty spice from oak.
• Finish: Smooth, with lingering spice and vanilla from oak.

• Liquorice: A sweet, slightly herbal flavour that adds depth to the wine. It’s often compared to black jellybeans.
• Dark Chocolate: A flavour that contributes richness and complexity, typically paired with oak aging.
• Tannins: These are compounds found in grape skins, seeds, and stems that give the wine structure. Fine tannins are smooth and contribute to a pleasant finish.
• Oak Influence: Refers to the flavours imparted to the wine from the barrels it’s aged in, including vanilla, spice, and toastiness. In this case, both French and American oak contribute these flavours.

Spiced mulberry, blackberry and licorice on the nose. The palate falls in line, with additional medjool date, quince, and bitter cocoa. While the density and concentration of flavour is spot on, those Christmas cake characters feel a touch out of place in a wine so young. The oak plays a big role right now, too. This is merely an observation, as it is delicious. Good length of flavour rounds this out.
