Peach | Citrus | Richness

L.A.S. Vino Barrels of Metricup Chardonnay 2025 is a premium Margaret River Chardonnay from a certified organic vineyard in the heart of Metricup. Made from 24-year-old Gin Gin clone Chardonnay, this is a wine with richness, texture and flavour, but also the freshness and drive that keeps top Margaret River Chardonnay so compelling.

The fruit is hand picked, chilled, hand selected and whole bunch pressed before fermentation in French oak barriques. It then goes through full malolactic fermentation, regular lees stirring and 10 months maturation in barrel. The result is a Chardonnay with layers of citrus, lemon curd, lime, peach and stone fruit, wrapped in texture, gentle oak polish and a long, fresh finish.

This provides a distinct point of difference from the Wildberry Springs and Southern Seas chardonnays. It’s a wine of incredible power and concentration, yet there is finesse and subtlety. In this case, only barriques were used and the wine underwent 100% malolactic fermentation. The aim was to hardly touch the wine as it went through the process, and it captures everything expected from the power and richness of the Gingin clone. There’s lively energy and brightness from the citrus and lemony characters, followed by the richer opulence of the meringue and stone fruit palate. That subtle savouriness on the finish completes what is an outstanding wine.

Tasting Notes

Colour: Bright straw with a pale golden edge.

Aromatics: Lemon curd, lime, peach and stone fruit, with citrus blossom, subtle cashew, gentle oak spice and a faint savoury edge.

Palate: Rich, layered and textural, with peach, citrus, lemon curd and lime at the centre. The full malolactic fermentation and lees stirring give the wine weight and softness, while fresh acidity keeps the palate clean and energetic.

Finish: Long, fresh and satisfying, with lingering citrus, stone fruit, savoury oak detail and a fine saline-like line.

About the Wine

Barrels of Metricup is one of L.A.S. Vino’s most distinctive Chardonnays. It comes from a certified organic Metricup vineyard with sandy loam topsoil over mottled clay subsoil, giving a different expression to wines grown on the forest loam soils more commonly associated with Wilyabrup.

The vineyard’s position in Margaret River brings warm days and cool nights, helped by afternoon breezes from the Indian Ocean. That combination is exactly what gives the wine its personality: warmth, flavour and richness, balanced by freshness, citrus drive and lift.

This is Chardonnay with substance, but also clarity. A wine for people who enjoy texture, oak, citrus and stone fruit in balance.

Cellaring: Delicious now for its freshness and fruit, with the structure and concentration to develop over the next five to eight years.

FAQ 🧐

What style is L.A.S. Vino Barrels of Metricup Chardonnay 2025?
It is a richer, textural Margaret River Chardonnay with citrus, lemon curd, peach, stone fruit, freshness and subtle oak complexity.

Is it organic?
The fruit comes from a certified organic vineyard in Metricup.

Is it heavily oaked?
It is fermented and matured in French oak barriques, but only 2 of the 10 barrels were new. The oak supports the wine with texture and polish rather than overwhelming the fruit.

Does it go through malolactic fermentation?
Yes. The wine undergoes full malolactic fermentation, which helps build softness and texture.

How does it differ from Wildberry Springs Chardonnay?
Barrels of Metricup is a warmer, richer and more textural expression, shaped by the Metricup vineyard, sandy loam and clay soils, and barrel fermentation.

Can I cellar it?
Yes. It is enjoyable now, but the fruit depth, acidity and winemaking structure should allow it to develop well over the next several years.
