Myattsfield Vineyard Zinfandel 2022

Zinfandel, a black grape variety originally from Croatia, is known for its bold, fruity flavours and high alcohol content. This variety typically produces robust, full-bodied red wines. The Myattsfield Vineyard Zinfandel 2022 is hand-harvested from the central area of the Perth Hills and is fermented in small open-top vessels. After fermentation, the wine is matured in a combination of ceramic egg vessels and oak. The ceramic eggs enhance the tight, rich fruit characteristics typical of Zinfandel, while the oak barrels contribute round, soft fruit flavours and a touch of spice.

Colour, Aromas, and Smell:
In the glass, the Zinfandel 2022 displays a deep, inviting colour. The nose is greeted with a harmonious blend of wild fruit aromatics, showcasing the bold character of Zinfandel while maintaining an elegant profile. You’ll find enticing aromas of dark fruits, complemented by subtle spicy notes from the oak maturation and the rich, expressive qualities imparted by the ceramic egg vessels.

Flavours, Tastes, and Palate:
On the palate, this Zinfandel offers a softer, smoother, and more refined expression compared to the typical bold and high-alcohol style of the variety. The wine presents plush flavours of beautiful dark fruits, balanced by a well-integrated texture. The combination of oak and ceramic egg maturation creates a defined and harmonious palate, showcasing both the wild fruit characteristics and the sophisticated nuances of spice. This medium-weight Zinfandel stands out for its elegance and balance, making it a delightful and surprising revelation.

Food Matching:
This Zinfandel pairs exceptionally well with a range of dishes. Its smooth, refined character complements grilled meats such as pork or beef, as well as rich, hearty dishes like beef stew or barbecued ribs. It also works beautifully with spicy foods, including dishes with a touch of heat or those featuring bold flavours. The wine’s versatility makes it a great choice for various culinary experiences.

Learn more about Myattsfield

Myattsfield Vineyard is a beautiful boutique winery nested in the Perth Hills region.

The original Myattsfield was the family farm in Camberwell, London. Joseph Myatt established a market garden on land owned by the Minet family. Over 175 years on, as descendants of Joseph, we’re now here in the Bickley Valley, Western Australia. The Bickley Valley is merely a small sub-region of the Perth Hills Wine Region, spanning from Chittering to Jarrahdale. This area was acknowledged for its distinct set of geographical and topographical influences impacting the wine quality in the region by the Geographic Indications Committee. It was granted GIC status as a gazetted wine region in 1999.

The Darling Scarp protects the Valley from maritime influences, making the climate more continental than Mediterranean in nature. This corresponds to cold nights and warm days. Valley walls reduce direct daylight hours, resulting in the daily maxima arriving later in the day and for a shorter period. At 300-350m above sea level, the Bickley Valley is 2-3 degrees cooler than Perth. Amongst the undulating terrain and aspects, site plays an important role in the valley. Elevated, northern-facing slopes produce significantly warmer sites better suited to dry red varieties. Southern-facing, lower sites produce cooler variations capable of producing better whites and lighter reds, while elevated, western-facing sites are ideal for fortified production.
