Third Reef Riesling 2020

Rockcliffe Third Reef Riesling

Rockcliffe Wines, located in the Great Southern region, enjoyed a standout 2020 season. Benefiting from beneficial rain events early in the year, the vines experienced robust growth and excellent budburst. This was followed by a long, cool summer that allowed for a slow and steady ripening process, resulting in a vintage described as one of the best in a decade. The fruit from all Rockcliffe vineyards was exceptional, showcasing the ideal balance of intense flavour and acidity.

In the glass, the 2020 Rockcliffe Third Reef Riesling exhibits a vibrant, pale straw colour. The nose is a delightful mix of orange blossom, lemon zest, and subtle floral notes, creating an inviting and fresh aromatic profile.

On the palate, this Riesling offers lively flavours of citrus and rose petal, leading to a crisp, lemony finish. The mouthfeel is well-balanced, with the acidity providing a refreshing punch that slightly overpowers the fruit, adding a zesty edge to the experience.

For food pairings, this Riesling works wonderfully with dishes that have a fleshy texture and low acidity. It complements simple, clean flavours such as fresh oysters or mussels, enhancing the meal with its vibrant and refreshing character.

But our commitment to sustainability doesn’t stop there. Despite the convenience of having Denmark mains water just 40 metres away, we’ve opted for complete self-sufficiency in water usage. We utilise filtered dam water for irrigation and cleaning purposes, while filtered rainwater – predominantly collected from our roofs – is used to rinse anything that comes into contact with our wine, including pipes and tanks, as well as for drinking water.

Our overarching goal is to operate at the highest environmental standards possible. We’re dedicated to being as sustainable as we can, ensuring that every step of our winemaking process reflects our commitment to both quality and environmental responsibility.
