Vasse Felix

Classic Shiraz 2023

Vasse Felix Classic Shiraz

This Vasse Felix 2023 Shiraz from Margaret River bats well above it’s price point. It shines with a brilliant, deep purple colour that catches the eye. On the nose, it’s an inviting mix of fresh raspberries and rich raspberry jam. The aromas come from a careful winemaking process: whole berry batches were gently soaked before fermentation in stainless steel vessels with wild yeast, followed by open-top fermentation and aeration. This method brings out a pure fruit perfume, softens the tannins, and gives the wine a lively, vibrant character.

On the palate, it’s bright and crisp, showcasing vibrant raspberry and satsuma plum flavours. The wine’s time in stainless tanks helped keep the fruit fresh and mellow, leading to a soft yet tangy acidity and a dry, invigorating finish. It’s a beautifully fruit-forward red that captures the elegance and freshness Vasse Felix is known for, and it’s ready to enjoy while it’s still young and lively.

100% Shiraz

This shiraz is a versatile red wine that pairs wonderfully with a variety of foods. Its flavours complement grilled meats like steaks and lamb. Barbecue dishes, such as ribs or pulled pork, work particularly well, as the wine’s fruitiness balances rich, sweet sauces. Hearty pasta dishes with Bolognese or creamy sauces are also great companions. Spicy foods, like Moroccan lamb tagine or Indian curries, harmonise beautifully with Shiraz’s robust character. For cheese lovers, aged cheddar or blue cheese, along with a charcuterie board, make for delightful pairings. To finish, dark chocolate or chocolate-based desserts perfectly complement the wine’s fruit and spice notes. Enjoy exploring these combinations for a fantastic dining experience!

92 Points – The beauty of this wonderful vintage is clearly on display with this entry level shiraz. Soft, warm and so, so cuddly. Punchy plummy fruit with a little spice and white pepper lurking somewhere deep. Perfect when you want to sit back and chill.
