About Lenton Brae wines

Established in 1982, Lenton Brae is one of Margaret River’s longstanding family-owned wineries. Its vineyard sits on the northern slopes of the Wilyabrup Valley, an area particularly renowned for Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay.

The name reflects the winery’s history and location. “Lenton” comes from the historic chapel district of Nottingham in England, where the original owners came from, while “Brae” is an old northern English and Scottish word for hillside.

A special vineyard in Wilyabrup

Lenton Brae’s first vines were planted in 1982. The 17-hectare property now has approximately 11 hectares under vine, with white varieties positioned to catch the gentler morning sun and red varieties planted to benefit from the warmer afternoon light.

Forest and mungite gravels over loam and spotted clay provide free drainage while helping retain moisture through Margaret River’s dry summers. Combined with the region’s Mediterranean climate and coastal influence, these conditions allow the vineyard to produce wines with freshness, structure and a clear sense of place.

Heritage, innovation and thoughtful winemaking

The Jackson family’s association with Lenton Brae began in 1991, and the winery remains family owned. Winemaker Vanessa “Ness” Carson brings experience from Australia and several European wine regions, while longtime viticulturist and assistant winemaker Russell Cocker provides deep knowledge of the vineyard.

The wines are made in small batches using careful fruit selection and a considered, minimal-intervention approach. Lenton Brae respects the classic varieties that built Margaret River’s reputation while also giving its winemaking team room to explore less familiar grapes and contemporary styles.

• Wilyabrup Range: The flagship collection, made from selected Wilyabrup fruit and focused on Semillon, Chardonnay and Cabernet-based reds.
• Estate Range: Approachable expressions of classic Margaret River varieties, including Semillon Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, Cabernet Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
• In Good Hands: A more adventurous collection built around distinctive fruit parcels, less common varieties and creative winemaking, including its vibrant and textural Chenin Blanc.

• Lenton Brae In Good Hands Chenin Blanc 2025 – a dry, vibrant and textural white with mandarin, lime, white pineapple, kiwi fruit and delicate florals. Nine months on lees and a small portion fermented in older French oak add creaminess and savoury detail. Awarded 94 points by Cyndal Petty at Winepilot.
• Lenton Brae Cabernet Merlot 2023 – a smooth, medium-bodied Margaret River red with plum, mulberry, blackberry, graphite and fine powdery tannins. Cabernet Sauvignon provides structure, Merlot brings softness, and smaller portions of Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot add complexity. Awarded 93 points and named among Ray Jordan’s Top 100 Reds.
