Amelia Park Trellis Cabernet Merlot

The Amelia Park Trellis Cabernet Merlot is a classic red blend crafted for easy drinking and immediate enjoyment. It features a rich bouquet and a soft, generous palate filled with red currants and plums. This wine is designed to be a crowd-pleaser, perfect for any occasion.

To create the Trellis 2023 blend, a selection of parcels is sourced from rom the Wilyabrup sub-region of Margaret River, this wine benefits from the area’s consistency in producing rich fruit flavours. A small percentage is sourced from the Wallcliffe sub-region, located further south, which adds subtle and elegant aromatics as well as fine tannins. This thoughtful sourcing contributes to the wine’s overall balance and appeal. Once the grapes reach optimal ripeness, they are harvested during the cool of the night to ensure the freshest fruit is delivered to the winery. The grapes are destemmed and transferred to static fermenters, where a long, cool fermentation takes place. After fermentation, the wine is pressed off the skins and matured in oak barrels for nine months, allowing it to develop complexity and character. The final blend is carefully crafted before bottling, ensuring a harmonious integration of flavours.

Recognised as a standout performer in Ray Jordan’s annual Top 100 red wine tasting in the budget category, the Trellis Cabernet Merlot truly shines. From the exceptional 2023 vintage, this blend showcases medium-bodied juicy fruit balanced with a hint of oak and a gentle tannin influence.

Margaret River Cabernet

Cabernet Sauvignon thrives in Margaret River, making it one of the region’s standout varietals. Several factors contribute to its success, including the unique terroir, climate, and meticulous vineyard management.

The region’s Mediterranean climate, characterised by warm, dry summers and mild, wet winters, is ideal for ripening Cabernet Sauvignon. The long growing season allows for a gradual maturation of the grapes, which helps to develop complex flavours and maintain balanced acidity. Additionally, the well-draining gravelly soils found in many vineyards provide excellent drainage, preventing waterlogging and promoting healthy root development. This combination of climate and soil enables the vines to produce grapes that are rich in flavour and ripe tannins.

Historically, the Margaret River region has become synonymous with high-quality Cabernet Sauvignon since its first commercial plantings in the 1960s. Pioneering winemakers recognised the area’s potential, leading to a rapid expansion of vineyards. The region’s proximity to the Indian Ocean also plays a crucial role, as the maritime influence moderates temperatures and enhances the ripening process. Over the years, Margaret River has gained a reputation for producing some of Australia’s finest Cabernet Sauvignon, with many wines consistently receiving accolades in national and international competitions.

Margaret River’s focus on sustainability and innovative viticultural practices further enhances the quality of its Cabernet Sauvignon. Many producers employ organic and biodynamic methods to nurture the vines, resulting in healthier grapes and more expressive wines. As a result, Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon is celebrated for its elegance, depth, and distinctive regional character, making it a favourite among wine enthusiasts both locally and abroad. This enduring legacy continues to position the region as a premier destination for Cabernet Sauvignon production.
