Duke’s Vineyard Invitational Shiraz Riesling

Yes you read correctly, this is a mix of a red & a white wine, and we can tell you it’s darn good drinking! Enjoy it chilled

The Dukes Vineyard Shiraz Riesling of 2023 is a thoughtfully crafted blend that combines the boldness of Shiraz with the refreshing character of Riesling. In the winemaking process, the grapes were destemmed into a closed-top fermenter, and juice was drained at the crusher to concentrate the must. After several days of cold soaking, fermentation began with a selected yeast, and the must was pumped over 1-3 times daily. A week of post-ferment maceration followed to develop a complete tannin structure, and after 21 days on skins, the tanks were pressed using a tank press with a basket press programme to minimise maceration. The wine was then gently drained into seasoned French oak barriques and aged for 10 months before being blended with 14.5% Riesling from the warm and juicy 2024 vintage, resulting in a vibrant and approachable wine.

In the glass, the Duke’s Vineyard Shiraz Riesling showcases a medium-deep magenta colour with purple edges, inviting you to explore its depth. The nose is lifted and aromatic, featuring fresh mulberry, wild raspberry cane, and crushed violets, along with dark chocolate, black cherry, savoury black pepper, and dark baking spice that create a complex and enticing bouquet.

On the palate, the wine offers a delightful mix of black cherry, mulberry, and blackberry bramble, complemented by a dark, slightly herbal character. The crunchy fruit is lithe and silky, with underlying notes of dark earth and brooding complexity. This blend is designed for warm weather and friendly gatherings, making it ideal for enjoying slightly chilled. Whole berries of Shiraz were fermented on skins, lightly pressed, and aged in seasoned French oak barrels for 10 months, while freshly squeezed Riesling was judiciously blended in to add lightness and brightness. With its refreshing profile, this vibrant red is perfect for those seeking a wine that’s ready to drink young.
