Tasting Notes:

In the glass, the Duke’s Vineyard Shiraz Riesling shows a medium-deep magenta hue with purple edges. The nose is aromatic and enticing, offering fresh aromas of mulberry, wild raspberry cane, and crushed violets. Beneath these bright fruit notes, there are subtle hints of dark chocolate, black cherry, black pepper, and dark baking spice, creating a complex and layered bouquet.

On the palate, the wine strikes a perfect balance between fruit and structure. Bold flavours of black cherry, mulberry, and blackberry bramble dance on the tongue, complemented by a slightly herbal, earthy undertone. The wine’s silky texture and crunchy fruit provide a refreshing, smooth mouthfeel, and the lingering notes of dark earth and complexity keep the finish interesting.

Food Pairing Suggestions:

  • Grilled Meats & Barbecue: Pair with grilled lamb, BBQ chicken, or smoked sausages to complement the wine’s dark fruit and savoury notes.
  • Cheese Pairing: This wine would go wonderfully with a range of cheeses, especially creamy goat cheese or a rich blue cheese.
  • Casual Appetizers: Serve alongside charcuterie, roasted nuts, or even a fresh summer salad to bring out the wine’s refreshing qualities.

Best Serving Temp:

Serve chilled at 10-12C for the best aromatic expression and to highlight its refreshing, vibrant nature.

  • If storing at room temperature (22°C): Chill the bottle in the fridge for about 45-60 minutes before serving.
  • If storing in the fridge (5°C): Let it warm slightly for 10 mins or so to allow its full flavour to develop.

Technical Terms Explained:

  • Cold Soaking: A process where the grapes are left in cold conditions before fermentation, helping to extract colour, flavour, and tannins from the skins without extracting too much bitterness.
  • Maceration: The process of soaking the wine skins in the juice to extract flavour, colour, and tannins. This helps to develop the wine’s structure and complexity.
  • Seasoned French Oak: Oak barrels that have been used for previous aging, which imparts subtle oak characteristics without overwhelming the wine.
  • Blend of Red and White Wine: The Duke’s Vineyard Shiraz Riesling is a combination of red Shiraz and white Riesling, creating a vibrant, fresh profile that’s unique in the wine world.
