Duke's Vineyard

Invitational Margaret River Chardonnay 2022

Duke’s Vineyard Invitational Margaret River Chardonnay 2022

Dukes Vineyard, located in the Porongurup region of Western Australia is known for its meticulous approach to winemaking. The 2022 Chardonnay is their inaugural release from Victory Point Vineyard in Margaret River, where four clones were grown in gravelly clay loams. The fruit was hand-picked, whole bunch pressed cold, and fermented with wild yeast in French barriques and hogsheads, with 35% new oak. After 10 months on lees, the wine was blended and bottled to produce a focused and elegant expression of Chardonnay.

The wine exhibits a pale hay colour with green tinges. Aromas include lemon citrus, wet granite, and mineral notes, alongside lemon curd tart, toasted brioche, malted oats, cream, vanilla pod, a touch of anise, white peach, yellow nectarine, raw cashew, and hints of basil and curry leaf.

On the palate, it is rich and creamy with flavours of Meyer lemon, almond meal, and cashew butter. The texture is refined, with a mineral length and a round, fine powdery frame. Juicy, but subtle notes of baked crust, lemon pith, and green lime skin add to its complexity. The wine has good weight, width, and length, with a focused and fine finish.

This Chardonnay pairs well with a variety of dishes, including grilled seafood like scallops or salmon, and poultry dishes such as roast chicken with a creamy sauce. It also complements dishes featuring nuts or creamy cheeses, making it a versatile choice for different meals.
