Evans & Tate Wild Cape Chardonnay

The Evans & Tate Wild Cape Chardonnay is a fantastic showcase of what Margaret River can do with Chardonnay. This wine brings out the best in the region’s fruit, offering a rich, ripe profile that’s truly impressive.

In the glass, you’ll notice its vibrant golden colour, hinting at the lushness within. The nose is a delightful mix of fleshy stone fruits like apricot and peach, mingling with melon and a touch of tropical flair. The wild barrel fermentation adds an extra layer of complexity, bringing in subtle notes of malt, cashew nuts, and fresh toast.

When you taste it, you’re greeted with a full-bodied, flavour-packed experience. The stone fruit and tropical notes are front and centre, perfectly balanced with the creamy, toasty elements from the barrel aging. The finish is long and satisfying, making each sip an exploration of its deep flavours.

This Chardonnay is versatile at the table. It pairs beautifully with rich seafood dishes like lobster or creamy crab pasta, and it’s also great with roasted chicken or dishes with buttery sauces. Plus, it’s a wine that will continue to develop in the bottle until around 2028, so it’s just as good for cellaring as it is for enjoying now.

Ray Jordan:
“This is a mighty impressive chardonnay for this price. It a wild fermented and then spent 11 months in oak on lees before more time in stainless steel before bottling. Plenty of melon and light cashew with an understated stone fruit influence. Finishes with a twist of lemon. Great wine for drinking in the short term”
