Sixty 40 Cabernet Shiraz 2023

Henty View Cabernet Shiraz

Juicy & Fruit-Forward | Harmonious Blend

Introducing the 2023 Henty View ‘Sixty40’, a masterful blend of Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon that offers the best of both worlds. Sourced from the renowned Geographe wine region, this red wine delivers a harmonious balance of ripe dark fruit, spice, and velvety tannins. With its plush, juicy character and medium body, it’s a versatile wine that can be enjoyed slightly cool, making it an easy-drinking choice for a variety of occasions.

Why You Will Love It:

  • Fruit-Forward Profile: A blend of blackberry, plum, and blackcurrant aromas, complemented by subtle spice and chocolate notes.
  • Smooth & Velvety Tannins: Medium-bodied with well-structured tannins that offer a smooth, rounded mouthfeel.
  • Oak Influence: Subtle maturation in 2-year-old American and French oak barrels adds a touch of vanilla, enhancing the wine’s complexity without overwhelming the fruit.
  • Perfectly Balanced: The freshness from the Cabernet Sauvignon is beautifully balanced by the richness of the Shiraz, creating a wine that is both approachable and layered.
  • Versatile Pairing: Semi-chill for a refreshing experience, and pair it with grilled meats, rich stews, or charcuterie for an unforgettable meal.

Tasting Notes:

The 2023 ‘Sixty40’ presents an inviting bouquet of ripe dark fruits—blackberry, plum, and blackcurrant—accented by a hint of pepper, cloves, and a whisper of chocolate. On the palate, these fruit flavours are mirrored, while the Shiraz contributes richness and a round mouthfeel, and the Cabernet Sauvignon adds a touch of freshness. The wine’s medium body and well-integrated tannins lead to a smooth, balanced finish. The subtle oak influence enhances the wine’s depth, giving it just the right touch of complexity.

Food Pairing Suggestions:

  • Grilled Steaks: Pair with a juicy, charred steak for a perfect match to the wine’s bold flavours.
  • Roast Lamb: The herbaceous notes in the lamb complement the wine’s spice and dark fruit profile.
  • Beef Stew: A rich, hearty beef stew with rosemary and garlic pairs beautifully with the depth of the ‘Sixty40’.
  • BBQ Ribs: The wine’s fruit-forward nature and tannin structure make it a great partner for smoky BBQ flavours.
  • Cheese & Charcuterie: Enjoy with a platter of aged cheddar or gouda and a selection of charcuterie for a casual but satisfying pairing.

Best Serving Temp:

Serve the Henty View Cabernet Shiraz ‘Sixty40’ slightly cooler, around 14°C – 16°C, to enhance its vibrant fruit profile and approachable character.

Decanting Suggestions:

For a slightly younger red wine like the 2023 ‘Sixty40’, decanting for 1 to 2 hours can help open up its fruit and spice flavours. Using a standard decanter will work well to allow the wine to breathe, enhancing its complexity and offering a more refined drinking experience.

Ferguson Wine Region

The Ferguson Valley and surrounds (Geographe) sits about 15 to 30 mins East and Southwest of Bunbury and is home to a number of small boutique wineries. It’s majestic rolling hills, and the changes between the prevailing summer easterlies to the afternoon sea breeze makes for a diverse set of microclimates.

The Geographe region has a rich and vibrant history in grape cultivation, earning its esteemed wine appellation status in 1999. While relatively young, this appellation has increasingly attracted new winemakers since the 2000s. Named after Geographe Bay, initially explored by French navigator Baudin in 1801 aboard his ships, the Geographe and the Naturaliste, the region now hosts 57 winegrowers, 26 producers, and cultivates 36 different grape varieties.

The terroir of the Geographe Wine Region is influenced by its maritime climate, with warm summer temperatures moderated by Indian Ocean breezes year-round. With an average annual temperature of 22.4°C, supplemented by water from the Collie River, the region is ideal for viticulture. Winters bring heavy rainfall, varying from 500-800mm a year. Geographe contributes ten percent to Western Australia’s wine industry, with vineyards reaching a maximum altitude of 400 meters, situated on limestone soil that holds water well along the coast, promoting drainage and mineral-rich content. Coastal vineyards feature low soil fertility, extending ripening times for smaller berries with intense aromas and concentrated flavours, while inland vineyards benefit from higher fertility derived from sandy loam and gneissic rock.
