Accolades

Ray Jordan – 95 Points

It makes sense that Millbrook has gone south to the Powder Bark Vineyard at Frankland for its shiraz from this excellent season. This is a cracking good wine with power, finesse, and smooth refinement. A mix of black and red fruits on the nose, a little pepper, and a distinctive ironstone thread. The palate is medium weight with the oak–fruit balance absolutely spot on. It’s flavoursome, it’s generous, and it extends with effortless ease to a long finish.

FAQ Wine Terms 🤔

  • Tannins: These are natural compounds found in grape skins and seeds. They contribute to a wine’s structure and mouthfeel, creating a sensation of dryness and astringency, which can soften over time with aging. In this Shiraz, the tannins are ripe and silky, creating a smooth, balanced finish.
  • Peppery Spice: A characteristic often found in cool-climate Shiraz, this refers to the subtle pepper-like flavours that come from the grape’s interaction with the environment during ripening. It adds a touch of complexity and can enhance the wine’s savoury qualities.
  • Ferrous Character: A faint iron-like note, which can contribute to the overall complexity of a wine and is often associated with the mineral-rich soils of certain regions like Frankland River.
