Myattsfield Vineyard Shiraz
The Myattsfield Vineyard Shiraz 2019 is a special release in a MAGNUM size, showcasing a unique blend with a touch of Viognier (3%) from the Perth Hills. The Shiraz fruit was crushed over Viognier skins, then fermented and matured for 12 months in a combination of new and seasoned French oak hogsheads. This winemaking process enhances the wine’s complexity and depth, allowing the intense dark fruit characters and spicy flavours to shine. The Shiraz (Syrah) grape is renowned for its rich, full-bodied profile and versatility, making it a staple in Australian wine regions.
Colour, Aromas, and Smell:
The 2019 Shiraz presents a deep, dark hue in the glass, reflecting its intensity. On the nose, it offers a captivating array of aromas, including wild berries and red fruit with a distinct spicy lift. The cooler season has contributed to a more defined and linear profile, with a subtle steely edge through the mid-palate, enhancing the aromatic complexity.
Flavours, Tastes, and Palate:
On the palate, this medium-weight Shiraz is elegantly structured, showcasing intense dark fruit flavours and a delightful spice. The cooler growing season has resulted in a wine that is less opulent but offers precise and defined characteristics. The integration of a mix of American oak barrels complements the fruit beautifully, adding depth and subtle nuances to the overall profile. The wine is enjoyable now but has the potential to develop further with cellaring.
Food Matching:
This Shiraz pairs exceptionally well with a variety of dishes. Its rich fruit and spicy notes make it an ideal companion for grilled meats, such as beef or lamb, as well as hearty stews and barbecued fare. The wine’s structure and complexity also make it a great match for aged cheeses or dishes with a touch of spice, enhancing the overall dining experience.
