Power & Precision | White Wine of the Year

The 2023 Pierro Chardonnay is a masterclass in balance – combining finesse, flavour, and structure in a way that few wines achieve. Crafted with meticulous attention to detail and drawn from one of Margaret River’s most revered sites, this wine offers a seamless interplay of ripe stone fruit, flinty minerality, and creamy texture. Awarded White Wine of the Year and 98 Points by Ray Jordan, it’s a benchmark example of why Pierro remains at the top of Australia’s Chardonnay game.

Why You Will Love It ❤️

  • Cellar-Worthy Excellence – A wine that will age gracefully over the next decade, gaining complexity with time.

  • Critically Acclaimed – ‘White Wine of the Year’ with near-perfect scores.

  • Rare – Sells out at the Cellar Door within weeks of release, but we have a small batch of stock still available!

Welcome to Pierro Vineyard, a hidden gem in the picturesque Wilyabrup area of the Margaret River Wine region in Western Australia. Nestled amidst 65 acres of stunning bushland, Pierro Vineyard is graced by the tranquil meandering of Willyabrup Brook, which plays a vital role in irrigating our meticulously tended vines. Since our inception in 1980, when we planted our first grapes and constructed our cellars, we have dedicated ourselves to the art of winemaking, nurturing approximately 11 acres of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Rhine Riesling, and Pinot Noir.

At Pierro, we employ an age-old European viticultural technique that involves planting vines closely together. This method encourages healthy competition among the plants, resulting in grapes that are rich in flavor and character. Our inaugural vintage in March 1983 marked a significant milestone, featuring a delightful array of wines including a spicy Blanc de Blanc, a superb Chardonnay, and a smooth Sauvignon Blanc. The quality of our wines is a testament to our dedication; our Spatlese Riesling, crafted from our own grapes, exemplifies the unique terroir of our region. Initially, we sourced grapes from local growers between 1979 and 1983, with some fruit from the Frankland River region, ensuring that our wines reflect the diversity of the area.

The Pierro cellars are a marvel in themselves, built using locally sourced materials that include rammed earth, which provides a naturally cool environment perfect for wine aging. The interior boasts warm tones of jarrah hardwood, creating a rustic yet elegant atmosphere. Our tasting area, highlighted by a stunning jarrah bar, offers visitors a chance to sample our wines in a setting that reflects the beauty and character of the Margaret River region.

Leading our winemaking efforts is Dr. Michael Peterkin, whose unique background blends medicine and viticulture. After initially graduating in Medicine, Dr. Peterkin pursued his passion for winemaking, becoming a consultant for several esteemed wineries in the Margaret River and Lower Great Southern districts. His expertise has been instrumental in crafting exceptional wines that showcase the unique characteristics of our vineyards.
