Rockcliffe Single Site Riesling

Vibrant | Fresh | Textured

This Single Site Riesling offers a distinctive take on the variety, with a small amount of barrel fermentation adding complexity to the wine’s character. Sourced from the renowned Denmark region of Western Australia, this premium offering provides a slightly richer, more textured experience than the usual Australian Riesling.

Why You Will Love It:

Complex Aromatics: The small amount of barrel fermentation brings out subtle stone fruit characters on the nose, providing a unique aromatic profile that sets this Riesling apart.

Vibrant Freshness with Added Texture: While retaining its taut acidity, the wine’s palate is enhanced with a richer texture of fruit, offering a beautiful balance of freshness and complexity.

Mineral Finish: The long, mineral-driven finish adds depth to the wine, making it a refreshing yet layered experience that continues to evolve.

Aging Potential: This wine promises to develop and evolve over the next 5 years, rewarding those who appreciate the balance of freshness and richness.

Tasting Notes:

The Rockcliffe Single Site Riesling 2021 shines with a vibrant pale straw colour. The nose is a captivating mix of fresh lime, delicate jasmine, and the added complexity of stone fruit, such as peach or apricot, which arises from the small amount of barrel fermentation. On the palate, the wine strikes a harmonious balance between crisp citrus flavours, such as lemon zest and green apple, and a richer texture that adds depth. The wine’s taut acidity provides a refreshing, clean finish, while the mineral notes round out the experience.

Food Pairing Suggestions:

  • Prawns: The citrus and stone fruit notes make this Riesling an excellent pairing for prawns, enhancing their delicate sweetness and fresh flavours.
  • White Fish: Pair with grilled white fish like barramundi or snapper, where the richness of the wine complements the texture of the fish.
  • Light Salads with Citrus Dressings: The wine’s fresh acidity and texture make it a perfect match for vibrant salads, particularly those with lemon or lime-based dressings.
  • Creamy Goat Cheese: The wine’s balanced acidity and complexity work beautifully with creamy goat cheese, adding both contrast and harmony.

Best Serving Temp:

Serve the Rockcliffe Single Site Riesling 2021 chilled at 8-10°C to highlight its fresh, crisp qualities and layered textures.

  • If storing in the fridge (5°C): Remove the bottle 10-15 minutes before serving to bring it to the ideal temperature.

Technical Terms Explained:

Barrel Fermentation: A process where a portion of the wine undergoes fermentation in oak barrels, rather than stainless steel. This imparts subtle texture and complexity to the wine, as well as additional aromatics such as stone fruit and light spice.

Acidity: The bright, crisp quality in the wine that enhances freshness and makes it food-friendly. In this Riesling, the acidity is balanced by the wine’s texture, creating a lively yet smooth experience.

Minerality: Describes the earthy or stony qualities in a wine, often influenced by the soil. The mineral finish in this Riesling adds complexity and a clean, refreshing finish.

But our commitment to sustainability doesn’t stop there. Despite the convenience of having Denmark mains water just 40 metres away, we’ve opted for complete self-sufficiency in water usage. We utilise filtered dam water for irrigation and cleaning purposes, while filtered rainwater – predominantly collected from our roofs – is used to rinse anything that comes into contact with our wine, including pipes and tanks, as well as for drinking water.

Our overarching goal is to operate at the highest environmental standards possible. We’re dedicated to being as sustainable as we can, ensuring that every step of our winemaking process reflects our commitment to both quality and environmental responsibility.
