Fairbrossen Malbec 2025

Fairbrossen Malbec of 2025 stands apart from the crowd with its lifted blueberry aromas and palate full of juicy blue fruit. While many Malbecs lean towards dark plum, blackberry or red fruits, this Margaret River expression sits firmly within the blue-fruit spectrum. Blueberry and other ripe blue-fruit flavours give it a distinctive personality, complemented by chocolate overtones, generous texture and ripe tannins.

The 2025 vintage was hot and dry, helping the Malbec grapes achieve excellent ripeness and concentrated fruit flavour. Despite that richness, the wine retains enough freshness to keep the palate lively and balanced.

Why You Will Love It

  • A genuinely distinctive Malbec: Its blueberry and blue-fruit profile makes it noticeably different from many other examples of the variety.
  • Rich and juicy: Generous fruit fills the palate without making the wine feel heavy or overworked.
  • Ripe, approachable tannins: The wine has enough structure for red-meat dishes while remaining smooth and enjoyable.
  • Serious French oak maturation: Eighteen months in new French oak brings spice, texture and additional complexity.
  • Margaret River character: Ripe fruit is balanced by freshness and a polished structure.

A Malbec on the Blue-Fruit Spectrum

The defining feature of Fairbrossen Malbec 2025 is its concentration of blueberry and juicy blue-fruit flavours. Wine descriptions commonly divide fruit character into red, blue and black fruit. Red-fruited wines may suggest raspberry, strawberry or red cherry, while black-fruited wines are more likely to recall blackberry, blackcurrant or dark plum.

Blue fruit sits between these two groups and can resemble blueberry, boysenberry, mulberry or blue plum. It often combines the freshness of red fruit with some of the depth and richness associated with darker fruit. Many Malbecs are dominated by plum, blackberry and black cherry. Fairbrossen’s Margaret River vineyard produces a noticeably different expression, with lifted blueberry aromas and juicy blue fruit carrying through the palate.

This does not mean the wine contains blueberries or added fruit flavour. These are naturally occurring aromas and flavours created by the grapes, vineyard conditions, fermentation and maturation. The result is recognisably Malbec, but with an individual fruit profile that gives it a clear point of difference.

Serving and Cellaring

  • Serve Fairbrossen Malbec 2025 at approximately 16°C. This is cooler than the temperature of most Perth homes. If the bottle has been sitting in a room at around 22 to 24°C, place it in the refrigerator for approximately 45 minutes before opening. Serving it slightly cooler helps keep the blueberry fruit fresh and prevents the alcohol, oak and chocolate characters from becoming too dominant.
  • The wine is ready to enjoy now, particularly if you like generous, youthful fruit. Its concentration, tannins and oak maturation should also allow it to develop over the medium term under suitable storage conditions.
  • With additional bottle age, the fresh blueberry character should gradually move towards blue plum, cocoa, leather, earth and more developed savoury flavours.

Food Pairing

  • Grilled steak: Malbec’s fruit, tannins and chocolate-like oak character make it an excellent match for sirloin, rump or rib eye.
  • Slow-cooked beef: Beef cheeks, short ribs and rich casseroles complement its juicy fruit and ripe tannins.
  • Roast lamb: Blueberry fruit and oak spice work particularly well with lamb seasoned with rosemary, thyme or garlic.
  • Barbecued meats: The wine has enough richness for smoky beef ribs, sausages or a mixed barbecue.
  • Venison: Lean game meat suits its combination of concentrated fruit, chocolate and structured tannins.
  • Mushroom dishes: Grilled mushrooms, mushroom risotto or a rich mushroom sauce bring out the wine’s savoury side.
  • Hard cheese: Mature cheddar, aged Gouda and other firm cheeses balance its ripe fruit and oak.
  • Dark chocolate: A small piece of moderately bitter dark chocolate can echo the wine’s chocolate overtones without overwhelming it.
