Lake House Postcard Cabernet Sauvignon 2023

partners in wine wa gold rating

The Lake House Denmark Postcard Cabernet Sauvignon 2023 is a beautifully juicy, medium-bodied Cabernet made from selected vineyards in Frankland River. Vibrant red and dark fruits flow through the palate, accompanied by blackcurrant, spice, tobacco and a leafy touch of mint. Eighteen months in French oak brings additional layers of chocolate, toast and coffee bean, while the tannins remain smooth and velvety.

Despite its Cabernet structure and time in oak, this is not a heavy or overly drying red. Its generous fruit and long-lasting mouthfeel make it particularly approachable, especially when served slightly cool and given time to breathe.

Why You Will Love It

  • Super juicy fruit: Packed with bright red fruits, blackcurrant and darker berry flavours.
  • Medium-bodied and approachable: Plenty of flavour without feeling too big, heavy or overly tannic.
  • Frankland River Cabernet: Sourced from selected vineyards within one of the Great Southern’s leading Cabernet-growing areas.
  • Eighteen months in French oak: Adds chocolate, spice, toast and coffee bean complexity.
  • Smooth tannins: The velvety structure gives the wine shape while allowing its juicy fruit to remain the main attraction.
  • Long-lasting flavour: The red fruit, chocolate and savoury notes continue well after each sip.
  • Excellent with food: A natural match for beef, lamb, rich pasta dishes and mature cheeses.

93 Points
“Super juicy, with lots of beautiful red fruit flowing through the palate. Medium-bodied with a long-lasting mouthfeel.
This is best served at around 16°C to highlight its juicy profile. If you can, give it 60 minutes in a decanter to really let the fruit and texture open up and allow the wine to shine.”

About the Postcard Series

The Postcard Series is The Lake House Denmark’s signature wine range, showcasing selected vineyard sites and premium parcels of Great Southern fruit.

The wines are designed to capture the individual character of their variety and growing region while remaining approachable enough to enjoy without extended cellaring.

For this Cabernet Sauvignon, fruit was selected from vineyards within Frankland River, a Great Southern subregion particularly well suited to structured, deeply flavoured red wines.

Serving and Decanting

Serve The Lake House Postcard Cabernet Sauvignon at approximately 16°C.

This is slightly cooler than the temperature of most Australian homes. Serving it too warm can make the alcohol feel more noticeable and cause the fruit to taste heavier and less refreshing.

If the bottle has been stored in a room at approximately 22 to 24°C, place it in the refrigerator for around 45 to 60 minutes before opening.

Decanting for approximately 60 minutes is recommended when possible. This allows oxygen to soften the wine’s tannins and helps release more of its red fruit, blackcurrant, mint, spice and chocolate aromas.

Food Pairing

  • Grilled steak: The wine’s Cabernet structure and juicy fruit complement sirloin, rump or rib eye.
  • Roast lamb: Mint, tobacco and dark fruit work naturally with herb-roasted lamb and vegetables.
  • Beef burgers: Try it with a chargrilled burger, caramelised onion and mature cheddar.
  • Beef ragu: The red fruit and acidity help balance a rich tomato and slow-cooked beef sauce.
  • Mushroom dishes: Roasted field mushrooms or mushroom risotto complement its earthy, toasty characters.
  • Mature cheese: Aged cheddar, Gouda or firm farmhouse cheese suits the wine’s dark fruit and coffee bean finish.
