The LS Merchants Red Blend 2025, better known as Drank, is the kind of red made for opening rather than overthinking. This playful, nouveau-style blend brings together Tempranillo, Sangiovese and Malbec in a fresh, juicy style packed with violets, blue fruits and cherry cola. It has enough tannin to feel like a proper red, but the brightness and energy make it perfect for relaxed drinking, especially with a slight chill.

Bottled in May soon after the 2025 vintage, Drank captures the fruit while it is young, vibrant and full of life. Tempranillo brings juicy red fruit, Sangiovese adds cherry flavour and savoury grip, while Malbec contributes colour and plush blue-fruit depth. The result is a seriously fun Margaret River red for pizza night, backyard barbecues and Friday knock-offs.

Tasting Notes

Colour: Bright ruby-purple with a youthful, vibrant appearance.
Aromatics: Lifted violets, blueberry and dark cherry, with raspberry, cherry cola and a gentle touch of spice.
Palate: Juicy and energetic, combining ripe blue fruits with red cherry and plum. Sangiovese brings freshness and savoury shape, Tempranillo adds generous fruit, and Malbec rounds out the middle with darker berry flavour.
Finish: Dry and lively, with grippy tannins, lingering cherry fruit and a savoury edge that makes it particularly good with food.

What Is a Nouveau-Style Red?

A nouveau-style red is made to highlight youthful fruit, freshness and immediate drinkability rather than long oak maturation or heavy extraction. Drank was bottled shortly after vintage to retain its bright berry flavours and lively personality. It is still a dry red wine, but it feels lighter, juicier and more energetic than a traditional full-bodied Shiraz or Cabernet.

Serving and Cellaring

Serve: 14 to 16°C. If the bottle has been sitting at normal Perth room temperature, place it in the fridge for around 20 to 30 minutes before serving.

Decant: No lengthy decant is needed. Open, pour and give it a few minutes in the glass.

Cellar: Best enjoyed young while its floral perfume, juicy fruit and cherry-cola character are at their brightest.

Is LS Merchants Drank a light red?
Yes. It is lighter and juicier than a traditional full-bodied red, although its grippy tannins still give it enough structure to pair well with food.

Should I chill this red wine?
A light chill suits it beautifully. Serving around 14 to 16°C sharpens the fruit, lifts the violet perfume and makes the wine even more refreshing.

Is it sweet because it tastes like cherry cola?
No. Cherry cola describes its combination of ripe cherry fruit and playful spice. The wine finishes dry, with tannin and savoury freshness.

What does each grape add to the blend?
Tempranillo contributes juicy red fruit and generosity, Sangiovese adds cherry flavour, acidity and grip, while Malbec brings colour and plush blue-fruit depth.

When should I drink it?
Drank was deliberately bottled early and made for youthful drinking. It is an ideal bottle to open now rather than one that needs years of cellaring.
