Structured ~ Elegant ~ Built for Time

The Viribus is a classic example of Margaret River Cabernet, reserved, composed and brimming with cellaring potential. This 2022 Reserve Cabernet delivers compelling aromatics of graphite, sea shell, and bay leaf, leading to a taut, powerful palate anchored by firm oak and tannin. It’s a wine that holds its cards close now, yet hints at future rewards with time.

Why You’ll Love It ❤️

  • 🌊 Distinctive minerality; graphite and seashell notes mingle with subtle bay leaf perfume.
  • 💪 Structured and powerful; with tight grip from oak and tannin holding the fruit close.
  • Age-worthy promise; clearly built for long-term cellaring.
  • 🏆 Critically noted; “Very promising” with 95 points from Ray Jordan.

Awards 🏆

95 Points – Ray Jordan
“A firm and still quite tight cabernet, which has the breeding and essential pieces to handle extended cellaring. A graphite seashell minerality tends to dominate with a bay leaf addition on the nose. Not excessive, but at the moment it provides the delightful aromatics. The palate is still tightly wound with a firm core of oak and tannin clutching feverishly at the fruit, holding it close through to a long finish. Very promising.”

Viticulture & Winemaking

Montague Estate’s Viribus Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 is hand‑picked from the Home Estate on 5 April 2022, crushed and destemmed to open fermenters, where it underwent indigenous fermentation for 12 days. Once the cap had formed, malolactic fermentation was completed in barrel. The wine spent 19 months maturing in French oak (44% new), before a final blending of estate-grown Petit Verdot and bottling on 27 October 2023.

Composition: Approximately 91% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Petit Verdot.
Alcohol: 13.5% | pH: 3.50 | TA: 6.1 g/L

Sustainability & Natural Practices 🌱

🔹 Boutique-scale production focusing on precision and site expression.
Montague Estate benefits from its Wilyabrup location—vineyards planted on diverse soils, with strong maritime climate influence lending natural elegance and purity to their wines.

Storage & Serving Tips ❄️

🔹 Serving Temperature: 16–18°C – allows the aromatics and structure to shine without muting.
🔹 Decanting: A generous 60–90 minutes recommended to help the wine relax and express depth.
🔹 Cellaring Potential: Now through 2040+—this reserve Cabernet is built to evolve and reward with time.

Food Pairing Suggestions 🍽️

🔹 Bone‑in ribeye grilled over coals—and a bold Gorgonzola sauce to match the wine’s power.
🔹 Charred broccolini—brings balance to the structured tannin profile.
