Bright red fruits ~ French oak depth

The Nannup Estate Rolling Hills Cabernet Sauvignon of 2020 is a classic, easy-to-enjoy WA Cabernet, grown on vineyards high on the escarpment above the rolling hills of Nannup, where reliable temperatures and ancient granite soils help deliver distinct varietal character.

In the glass it shows a deep garnet colour with a ruby hue, generous weight and flavour, and a bright red-fruit core with lively acidity that keeps it fresh and moreish. It’s matured in French oak for 18 months, giving the wine extra structure and savoury polish without losing its drink-now appeal.

Why You Will Love It

  • Blackwood Valley Terroir with bright fruit and natural freshness
  • 18 months in French oak for depth, shape and a more rounded finish
  • Generous flavour with a lively acid line, perfect with food
  • Made in a clean, classic way, then fined and filtered before bottling
  • Ideal drinking now, with enough structure to hold for years

Accolades

Wine Companion – 92 points

Clone 126, fermented wild in stainless steel, pressed to French oak for 18 months maturation (30% new). Lush and brooding, this has dark chocolate, blackberry and resin. In the mouth the wine is spicy and exotic, an interesting expression of the clone in Nannup (very different to the way it looks from Margaret River, for example). There is vibrancy and purity of red fruit at the core of this wine, framed as it is by oak and regionality.

Tasting Notes

  • Colour: Dark garnet with a ruby hue.
  • Aromatics: Bright red fruits with a clean, varietal Cabernet lift.
  • Palate: Generous weight and flavour, red-fruit driven, supported by lively acidity and a French oak frame.
  • Finish: Fresh, balanced and food-friendly, with polished structure from time in oak.

Viticulture & Winemaking

Growing area: Nannup, Western Australia
Variety: Cabernet Sauvignon
Winemaker: Ryan Aggiss

Winemaking: Picked at optimal ripeness, crushed to stainless steel fermenters for alcoholic fermentation, then matured with French oak for 18 months. The wine was fined and filtered before bottling.

Vintage 2020: Above average winter rainfall and warm conditions into spring supported budburst and flowering. Consistent temperatures and a relatively early season helped varieties reach balanced flavour and tannin ripeness, with reds showing intense varietal flavour and approachable tannins.

Technical: Alcohol 14.0% | TA 6.45 g/L | pH 3.57
Bottled: December 2020
Cellaring: 5–8 years

Serving & Cellaring
