Margaret River Chenin Blanc

Old Vines | Crisp & Complex | Elegant

In 1980, Dr Michael Peterkin planted a small 1.5-acre plot of Chenin Blanc vines that have now matured into a treasured old-vine block producing small yields of intensely flavoured fruit. For years, Dr Peterkin dreamed of crafting a special wine from these grapes — and now, with Nunc Tempus Est (Latin for ‘Now is the time’), that vision has come to life. This wine expresses the purity, power and precision of old-vine Chenin Blanc, layered with refined complexity and freshness.

Why You Will Love It ❤️

  • Old Vine Intensity – Crafted from a rare 1.5-acre block planted in 1980, this Chenin Blanc delivers concentrated flavours with incredible depth.

  • Fresh & Vibrant – Early handpicking and gentle winemaking preserve the wine’s zesty green apple, apricot and lemon myrtle brightness.

  • Textural Elegance – A refined, chalky grip and silky mouthfeel balance the bright acidity for a polished finish.

  • Versatile & Food Friendly – Bone dry with complex savoury notes, perfect for pairing with seafood, poultry, and fresh herbs.

  • Long Living – Structured for ageing, this wine will evolve beautifully over the next 8-10 years.

Tasting Notes

  • Appearance: Pale straw with delicate green hues.
  • Aroma: Lifted aromas of green apple, apricot, lemon myrtle, honey and subtle spicy oak.
  • Palate: Bone dry with juicy flavours of crisp apples, straw and a touch of dried herbs. Chalky texture and a sleek, glossy mouthfeel carry through to a long, savoury finish with quinine bitterness.

Food Pairings

  • Grilled scallops with lemon butter — freshness and citrus complement the wine’s acidity.

  • Roasted chicken with fresh thyme and garlic — the herbal notes harmonise with the Chenin’s texture.

  • Pork belly with apple compote — sweetness and acidity play perfectly with the dish.

  • Soft cheeses — such as Brie or Camembert, to match the wine’s creamy textural notes.

Winemaking

  • Grapes handpicked early in the morning and gently chilled to preserve freshness.

  • Whole bunch pressing to extract pure, delicate juice.

  • Fermentation in stainless steel and mature French oak to balance purity and complexity.

  • Maturation over winter months, bottled in spring for freshness and vibrancy.

Welcome to Pierro Vineyard, a hidden gem in the picturesque Wilyabrup area of the Margaret River Wine region in Western Australia. Nestled amidst 65 acres of stunning bushland, Pierro Vineyard is graced by the tranquil meandering of Willyabrup Brook, which plays a vital role in irrigating our meticulously tended vines. Since our inception in 1980, when we planted our first grapes and constructed our cellars, we have dedicated ourselves to the art of winemaking, nurturing approximately 11 acres of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Rhine Riesling, and Pinot Noir.

At Pierro, we employ an age-old European viticultural technique that involves planting vines closely together. This method encourages healthy competition among the plants, resulting in grapes that are rich in flavor and character. Our inaugural vintage in March 1983 marked a significant milestone, featuring a delightful array of wines including a spicy Blanc de Blanc, a superb Chardonnay, and a smooth Sauvignon Blanc. The quality of our wines is a testament to our dedication; our Spatlese Riesling, crafted from our own grapes, exemplifies the unique terroir of our region. Initially, we sourced grapes from local growers between 1979 and 1983, with some fruit from the Frankland River region, ensuring that our wines reflect the diversity of the area.

The Pierro cellars are a marvel in themselves, built using locally sourced materials that include rammed earth, which provides a naturally cool environment perfect for wine aging. The interior boasts warm tones of jarrah hardwood, creating a rustic yet elegant atmosphere. Our tasting area, highlighted by a stunning jarrah bar, offers visitors a chance to sample our wines in a setting that reflects the beauty and character of the Margaret River region.

Leading our winemaking efforts is Dr. Michael Peterkin, whose unique background blends medicine and viticulture. After initially graduating in Medicine, Dr. Peterkin pursued his passion for winemaking, becoming a consultant for several esteemed wineries in the Margaret River and Lower Great Southern districts. His expertise has been instrumental in crafting exceptional wines that showcase the unique characteristics of our vineyards.
