Perfumed ~ Forest Floor ~ Silky

The Singlefile Family Reserve Denmark Pinot Noir 2023 is a milestone wine for the Snowden family’s Denmark estate vineyard, and a serious step up in depth and detail. The vines were planted in 2013 in the Scotsdale Valley and the 2023 harvest was the first that truly justified elevating this Pinot to Family Reserve status. The style is medium-bodied and richly flavoured, with cherry and dark berries over savoury, truffly complexity and fine tannins.

It is also incredibly hard to find. We are very lucky to have it, and Partners in Wine WA is currently the only online retailer with stock, thanks to our large Singlefile range in Perth.

Why You’ll Love It

  • Inaugural Family Reserve Pinot Noir from Singlefile’s Denmark vineyard, planted in 2013.
  • 97 points from Ray Jordan and built to cellar for up to 10 years.
  • Elegant but powerful Pinot with truffle, forest floor and silky tannins, not a simple fruit-only style.
  • Thoughtful winemaking including cold soak, a barrel-fermented parcel and French oak integration.
  • Rare online availability with Perth-based specialist support.

Accolades

97 Points, Ray Jordan
“Okay, we’ve got something here. This comes off the family vineyard in Denmark. These vines are now pretty mature and pumping out some classy fruit. The aroma delivers so much of the truffly, slightly funky earthy notes that you get in pinot. It’s engaging from the outset, and then into the palate, which is medium-weight but so complex and loaded with a deep, lingering fruit intensity. It delivers so much more. There is an almost layered complexity on the palate with a truffly mushroom, spicy, damp earth, and forest floor character. The oak is perfectly weighted. The tannins are silky fine. And the palate-just velvety smooth”

Tasting Notes

Aromatics: Lush cherry perfume with forest flowers, bramble and vanilla-scented spice, plus a truffly, slightly earthy lift.
Palate: Light-bodied but deeply flavoured. Black cherry and dark berries layered with savoury, earthy notes and subtle whole bunch character, framed by natural acidity and fine tannins.
Finish: Silky, velvety and persistent, with lingering fruit intensity and polished tannin length.

Viticulture & Winemaking

Region: Denmark, Great Southern, WA
Site: Singlefile vineyard in the Denmark subregion, north to north-west facing slopes on fertile, well-drained Karri loam soils.
Variety: Pinot Noir (Burgundian clones 777 and D5V12).
Harvest: 2 April 2023.
Vinification: Gently destemmed, cold soaked for two days. One parcel barrel fermented with natural fermentation in new French oak, the remainder fermented in small open fermenters.
Maturation: 8 months in French oak barriques, 35% new, then bottle aged for 18 months prior to release.
Alcohol: 13.9%.

Serving & Cellaring

Serve: 14–16°C (a short chill works beautifully with this style).
Decant: Optional, but 20–30 minutes in a carafe opens the perfume and savoury detail.
Cellar: Drink now for its energy, or cellar up to 10 years for deeper truffle, spice and forest-floor complexity.

Food Pairing Suggestions

  • Duck or pork with roasted root vegetables
  • Mushroom pasta or risotto
  • Roast chicken with herbs
  • Charcuterie and soft rind cheeses
