Peel Estate Winery
Located on the unique coastal limestone soils at Karnup, 60
kilometres south of Perth in Western Australia. Established in 1973 with first planting of Shiraz, Chenin Blanc and Zinfandel were soon
to follow in 1976 and the Chardonnay in 1980 with later plantings of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Verdelho and Touriga.
The winery was built and first wine made at Peel Estate in 1980.
The limestone, high water table and closeness to the Indian Ocean gives Peel Estate a very Mediterranean microclimate with mild winters
and relatively cool summers. The sea breeze comes in much sooner in summer compared with the swan valley, keeping the temperatures a little cooler. In Winter, rainfall on the coastal plain of the Peel Estate Vineyard is lower compared with inland at Millbrook, placing the vines under more stress which produces wines of immense character and flavour.
