Cherubino Wines & Winery: A Legacy of Excellence

Larry Cherubino and his wife, Edwina, are the driving force behind Cherubino Wines, a renowned winery deeply rooted in the rich history of Western Australia. Edwina, a fourth-generation local, proudly carries on her family’s legacy. The Egerton-Warburton family, her ancestors, were not only pioneers who settled in Frankland River in the mid-1800s, but they also planted the first vines along the banks of the river in 1875, laying the groundwork for a vibrant wine culture in the region.

In 2004, inspired by their heritage and a passion for winemaking, Larry and Edwina purchased their first parcel of land in Frankland River, dreaming of cultivating their own vineyard. This initial plot was part of the historic Riversdale estate, a site rich in agricultural history. Their vision was clear: to produce exceptional wines that reflect the unique terroir of the region and pay homage to Edwina’s ancestral roots.

Cherubino Winery officially began in 2005, starting humbly in their spare room with the release of their inaugural wine. From those modest beginnings, the winery has grown significantly, earning a stellar reputation in the Australian wine industry. Their commitment to quality and innovation has not gone unnoticed; they have received numerous accolades, including the prestigious title of Winery of the Year from acclaimed wine critics such as James Halliday and Matt Skinner.

The Cherubino approach to winemaking is characterised by a meticulous attention to detail. They source grapes from several premium regions, including Frankland River, Margaret River, and the Great Southern. Each vineyard is selected for its unique climatic and soil conditions, allowing for the production of a diverse range of wines that showcase the distinct characteristics of each area. This philosophy of terroir-driven winemaking is evident in every bottle, with each wine reflecting the specific environment in which the grapes are grown.

Larry, an experienced winemaker, uses both traditional and modern techniques to create wines of exceptional quality. His philosophy centres on minimal intervention, allowing the grapes to express their true nature. This results in wines that are not only sophisticated and complex but also incredibly approachable. Whether it’s a robust Shiraz, a crisp Sauvignon Blanc, or a beautifully balanced Chardonnay, each Cherubino wine tells a story of its origin.

The winery’s commitment to sustainability is also noteworthy. Cherubino Wines embraces eco-friendly practices, from vineyard management to production techniques. They focus on maintaining the health of the soil, preserving biodiversity, and reducing their carbon footprint. This sustainable approach ensures that future generations can enjoy the same stunning landscapes and high-quality wines.

Visitors to the Cherubino winery are welcomed into a warm and inviting atmosphere where they can experience the wines firsthand. The cellar door offers tastings and provides insights into the winemaking process, allowing guests to appreciate the passion and dedication that goes into each bottle. The picturesque surroundings, coupled with the friendly service, create an unforgettable experience for wine lovers.

In addition to their award-winning wines, Cherubino also engages with the community through various events and initiatives. They believe in the importance of fostering relationships and sharing their love of wine with others. From hosting wine dinners to participating in local festivals, Cherubino Wines plays an active role in the Western Australian wine scene.
