Perfumed • Elegant • Critical Acclaim

Stella Bella Cabernet Sauvignon of 2023 is a beautifully perfumed and elegant expression of southern Margaret River Cabernet, made from the best parcels across five established vineyards. Vibrant redcurrant, blackcurrant and blue fruits are layered with dried herbs, blackcurrant leaf, dark chocolate and gentle spice. Fine, linear tannins and lively acidity give the wine shape and length, while carefully selected French oak adds complexity without overpowering its bright fruit.

Its quality was emphatically recognised at the 2025 Margaret River Wine Show, where it was named both Best Cabernet Sauvignon and Red Wine of Show. It followed this with a Gold Medal at the 2026 Decanter World Wine Awards.

Why You Will Love It

  • A true southern Margaret River Cabernet: Blended from five vineyards with vines ranging from 28 to 45 years old.
  • Elegant rather than overpowering: Medium-bodied, perfumed and finely structured, with bright fruit and savoury complexity.
  • Built for the cellar: The winery recommends cellaring for more than 20 years, although it can also be enjoyed now with time to breathe.
  • Carefully judged oak: Matured for up to 10 months in French oak barriques, including 30% new oak.
  • A touch of Malbec: The addition of 9% Malbec brings extra colour, blue fruit and middle-palate generosity.

Critical Acclaim

Wine Companion – 95+ Points
The ’23 reds from Stella Bella are impressive for their balance, detail and deliciousness. They feel unforced. This is a wonderful, elegant wine full of perfectly ripe fruit, spice and savouriness, with the oak integrated and adding structure as much as some flavour. Exceptionally fine tannins and energising acidity round this out so well.

Tasting Notes

Appearance
Vibrant, clear red with a youthful core and bright rim.

Aroma
Mulberry, plum skin, violets and blueberry leap from the glass. The fruit sits front and centre, with perfectly judged French oak adding a gentle savoury complexity and a touch of vanillin and spice in the background.

Palate
Medium bodied, vibrant and elegant. Bright cherry, cranberry and blueberry form the core of the palate, supported by mulberry and dark plum notes. Fine, gravelly tannins frame the fruit and provide structure, while delicate vanillin from the finest French oak adds subtle complexity.

Finish
Long, salivating and moreish, with red and blue fruits, gentle savoury oak and dusty cabernet tannins drawing you back for another glass.

Blend and Winemaking

  • Blend: 91 percent Cabernet Sauvignon, 9 percent Malbec

  • Region: Southern Margaret River, WA

  • Vineyards: A blend of fruit from five Stella Bella vineyards, each contributing its own character

  • Oak: French oak, chosen to support rather than dominate the fruit

  • Style: Medium bodied, perfumed and elegant with classic cabernet line and length

The inclusion of Malbec adds colour, mid palate juiciness and a little extra floral and berry lift to the cabernet core.

Serving and Cellaring

  • Drink Window: Now to 20+ years

  • Serving Temperature: 16 to 18 degrees

  • Decanting:

    • Young: Give it 1 to 2 hours in a decanter to let the perfume and structure unfurl

    • Aged: Pour gently off any sediment and allow it to open gradually in the glass

This wine will gain complexity with time, developing notes of cedar, tobacco, dried flowers and savoury earth while retaining its fine tannin line.

Food Pairing

  • Roast Margaret River Arkady lamb rack with seasonal vegetables

  • Herb crusted beef fillet with roast mushrooms

  • Slow cooked lamb shoulder with rosemary and garlic

  • Mushroom and thyme risotto

  • Aged hard cheeses such as cheddar or Comté

2023 Vintage

Ripening conditions couldn’t have been better, low rainfall and a warm summer provided fast ripening and a small picking window. Temperatures cooled late in the season allowing that much loved hang time for our red varieties, helping to develop those lovely intense, plush and dense flavour profiles in all of our red fruits. This was a great year to be in the cooler part of town.

FAQ 🧐

Is this a big, heavy cabernet?
No, it sits firmly in the medium bodied, elegant camp. There is plenty of flavour and structure, but the emphasis is on perfume, freshness and balance.

Can I drink it now or should I wait?
You can absolutely enjoy it now, especially with a decant, but the fine tannin structure and balance mean it will comfortably age for two decades or more.

What does the Malbec add?
Malbec brings extra colour, a touch of plush mid palate fruit and a hint of floral lift that sits beautifully alongside the cabernet’s structure and cassis drive.
