A Family Legacy Rooted in Passion
Founded in 1998 by Simon and Maaike Berns, Sittella’s journey began in 1993 when the couple purchased land in the Swan Valley and started planting vines on weekends. Initially cultivating Verdelho, Chardonnay, and Shiraz, they later expanded to include varieties like Petit Verdot and Tempranillo, well-suited to the region’s warm climate . The winery is named after the Sittella, a small Australian bird native to the area.
Today, their son Yuri Berns, a Curtin University graduate in viticulture and oenology, leads the winemaking team, bringing fresh energy and innovation to the family enterprise .
Crafting Wines of Distinction
Sittella is acclaimed for its traditional method sparkling wines, their estate red wines and Their Avant-Garde series of white wines, including Chenin Blanc and Albariño, showcasing the Swan Valley’s potential for high-quality white varietals.
The winery sources fruit from its Swan Valley estate, as well as from Margaret River and Frankland River, allowing for a diverse range of wines that reflect Western Australia’s varied terroirs.

A Culinary Experience Amidst the Vines
Sittella’s Mediterranean-style restaurant offers modern Australian cuisine crafted by Chef Mike Price, who brings over 30 years of international experience, including as Executive Chef at London’s Selsdon Park Hotel. The menu features dishes designed to complement Sittella’s wines, with a focus on locally sourced, free-range ingredients.
Guests can dine on the verandah, enjoying panoramic views of the vineyards and the Darling Range escarpment, making it an ideal setting for leisurely lunches, special occasions, and weddings Swan Valley.
Immersive Wine Experiences
For those seeking a deeper connection, Sittella offers guided vineyard and winery tours, including personalised tastings and cheese platters. These one-hour experiences provide insight into their winemaking process and operate Tuesday to Friday at 11am and 2pm, and Saturday and Sunday at 11:30am and 2pm.
